Interviews: SNØGG

In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Black Metal band SNØGG from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

At the begining, we were called Black Trail, with all the letters replaced with black boxes, that is 11 black boxes. Then we found out there is a band that is called 5 black boxes, so we said, ok we have to change the name. I was driving through south of Norway when I saw the name Snøgg written on one board... And I said, hey that reads sneg (snow in Slovenian), that could be the new name, and I checked the dictionary what it actually means, and it means fast. I always loved word plays, so I was immediately intrigued. We discussed it on next rehearsals and the band was officially named Snøgg.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I always listened to all the different musical genres and always had at least three bands or project running. When Snøgg started I was in playing in an instrumental post-metal band called Entheogen, the industial band The Stroj, ethnic-electro band Foxwolf, experimental electro project MMbassa, just started solo guitar project, and I always loved to experiment a lot. Soo... I created a 13-minute long song called Selena Zollata that was an experiment somewhere between black metal, noise, and electronics. I liked it and I wanted to put it on stage. It was also planned to be black metal opera, but then we just stick with experimental black metal and that was it. It leaves us options to explore other genres and not to be limited by any trends or boundaries of the genre. Mørke was playing in punk band Fugitives, some other rock band and just started to form Carnallite, a death/slam/grind band. So yeah...

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, we knew about each other, but we didn't hang out or anything. We jammed once on a jam session before.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Ulv: Neurosis

Mørke: Amorphis

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Nature and everyday events, what I read, what I watch, where I go, politics, religion... All the different things.

6. Where was your last gig?

Kamnik, Slovenia (In the middle of Slovenian mountains)

7. Where would you like to act?

Every show is welcome as long as people are ok. We don't like a right-wing extremist. Besides that everything is possible. We would like to play in special places.. .somewhere in nature.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

King Diamond 9. Whom not? Andrej Kmetič

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I began performing when I was 7 years old, so stage fright is something I remember vaguely. But I know the feeling of nervousness before you start something, not only limited to musical performance. For the stage, just start somewhere and pretend there are no people. Do it like you do it on rehearsals. I remember my first rock concerts. I was nervous before the show, but when I got on the stage all the fright went away... One beer also helps.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

The list is long. Ulver, Darkthrone, Taake, Dimmu Borgir, Xasthur, Mastodon, Isis, Neurosis, Sunn O))), Zeal & Ardor and more.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Some fans asked us if we want to party with them after the show in some metal bar. So we went. It turned out it was a Nazi bar, they wanted us to salute Hitler and some shit. We quickly drank our beer and went home, luckily alive and well.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We like our fans. They are weird. Like us. And we like it.

14. What do you think of our site?

I must be honest, I first heard about you when I got this interview. I took a glance at it and it looks proper metal site. Samo gurajte! (Just keep on rollin')

15. Something add?

Kids, go out and experiment!
