Interviews: Uburen

In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Black Metal/Viking Metal band Uburen from Norway. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?  

The name Uburen is not just something we decided upon randomly, we actually had a different name when we first started back in 2006. but as we grew older and the music started to become more than just something we did as a hobby and became more something we do convey our thoughts we changed styles so drastically that we felt the name also needed a change  we ended up taking the name of a mountain in the hometown of Ask and Bior and not far away from the where Thords family is originating from. Uburen the mountain has a history, as dark as night and reflects the social thought pattern of our past triumphs and failures. the basic of the story is the mountain was used for getting rid of the unwanted in society, those unfit, by giving them a little push of the edge into a 400m freefall into a solid cold rock. Uburen is also referred to as a name of forest spirits after ritualistic trials where children were set to survive alone in the wilderness to transition into adulthood

2. Why did you want to play this genre?  

We don't play black metal because we want to. we just do. you can't speak of or try to portray what we try to portray in any other soundscape. the words and the music is a direct translation of our thoughts and ourselves. 

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?  

Well, Ask and Bior are brothers so bound to know each other since before. Thord came into the picture at the beginning of the band when under the last name. before Bior had started in the band. this is all so damn long ago it's hard to remember all the details. its been a while 

4. Each band member favorite band?  

Its to hard to pinpoint just 1 band to be a favorite. we all listen to almost endless numbers of bands. constantly discovering new music. not bound in the same track listening to the same albums on repeat. 

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?  

Inspiration for songs is a weird one. On the larger part, the music on our songs is written by Ask while the lyrics written by Bior. we have the whole brother thing going through being somewhat on the same brainlength. during rehearsals we discuss everything and in between rehearsals there is something near complete isolation. we are not very social none of us. don't go out and interact just to talk bullshit on a daily basis. gives you a lot of times within your own mind to contemplate all your ideas the issues and gives you the possibility to see color yet unseen. when you got upwards of 1 year in solitude where you work in solitude and silence, days, where you won't utter a single word, is not uncommon. 

It's just you and your mind, the ground you walk upon and the Norwegian landscape slowly forming your ideas into words and sounds, in short, an atmosphere of solitude and self-reflection is what creates 

6. Where was your last gig?  

Our last gig was actually a fair while ago, was a mini-tour in Portugal with a show as co-headlining a festival called "Darkness is forever" alongside the great "Harakiri for the sky" 

7. Where would you like to act?   

Where would we like to play? where its at is not important its all about the people that there. reaching those who can identify with Uburen 

8. Whom would you like to feature with?    

One of the greatest things about all the tours and all the shows we've played around the world. is the underground metal bands we've played with. playing alongside these guys that live for music and not for the money. they are the best to be featured with. 

9. Whom not?  

Bands that support Antifa or other silly organizations that want to limit free speech, forcing venues to cancel bands. It's an art form and should not be limited.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?  

Well, the very first gigs anyone plays is probably a bit hard on the nerves. have a calm beer.. its ok if your first shows suck. get into the mindset you were in when you wrote the songs when you are supposed to perform them. be a vessel of the music. 

11. What bands have inspired you the most?  

Khold is the strongest overall inspiration in Uburen. a band with only songs in Norwegian with lyrics built up with words that make it somewhat hard even for us to understand 

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for? 

Weirdest thing a fan ever asked for? if we wanted to come home to their place drink, sleepover, party and of course .. burn some crosses. 

13. What do you think of your fans?   

The fans that come to our shows are usually fucking die-hard metal people. and not that kind that only listens to metal and pretends to be more metal than you, but those that listen to metal because of what it means, symbolizes and brings into their lives. the real music lovers. they usually go insane at the concerts though, but mostly damn fine people

14. What do you think of our site?

Honestly was not aware of "Breathing The Core" prior, but I love what you guys do though. promoting underground bands, pushing them out there so people can discover their great music

15. Anything to add? 

Make black metal hate again! stop this politically correct bullshit in black metal.. black metal was and should be fucking ANTI. no religion is free from critique also there our new album has been pirated so many times already. It's on many sites available for download, but download it from our Bandcamp! its 100% free to download. we don't care about the money that much, we just want to know where people are actually listening to us so that we can plan tours to those countries!
