Interviews: Virtue In Vain

In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Metalcore/Deathcore band Virtue In Vain from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

I am a strong believer in anti-idolism because by idolizing someone, I feel you create an idea of them being better than you. I have many inspirations of where my music style comes from, and they inspire me to make music, but I don’t want to do that simply by copying what someone else is doing, as I would rather create it in my own way. With this, I created the idea of Virtue In Vain, which is my way of saying, “What you perceive is worthy, is not as worthy as it seems“.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Metalcore is what we grew up on, and when we were finding our sound we took from our inspirations and put our own twist on it. I (Hywel) grew up on metalcore bands like Killswitch Engage, The Devil Wears Prada, As I Lay Dying, Architects, the list goes on. So I naturally was drawn to this sound.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Myself (Hywel) and Emyr are brothers but Dan and Mason we didn’t know beforehand. We knew them in different bands we have played with and then, in the end, all came together

4. Each band member favorite band?

Hywel: The Devil Wear Prada

Emyr: Make Them Suffer

Mason: Lorna Shore

Dan: Polaris

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Our own stories and the struggles we have been through. Growing up, music helped me (Hywel) get through difficult times and the power that a song has to help you through that or remind you of a memory or be played in a happy moment is amazing. I write to share my stories and what I went through, and if that can help even just one person get through a difficult period then that is all that matters.

6. Where was your last gig?

Bridgend, South Wales. We supported Carcer City on their farewell tour which was incredible. Great show and such a shame a talented band called it a day.

7. Where would you like to act?

We love to play Europe, see the sights and meet new people.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

The list is endless here! Make Them Suffer is at the top of our list with The Devil Wears Prada. I would like to feature with Deadmau, sounds odd but mixing styles I believe to be an interesting mix.

9. Whom not?

I don’t think we wouldn’t try and feature with anyone, as long as someone has a passion for music it’s always a good time.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Oh, 100%! I think we all have at one point. It’s hard to advise as we all overcame it differently, but we still get it from time to time. I think the best advice is to be confident in yourself and your music. If you believe that you are putting on a great show and have faith in your music, then that will come across and the fear will melt away.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

The Devil Wears Prada and Make Them Suffer are the biggest influences for us. Make Them Suffer in particular, as Nick Mclernon (Guitarist) was giving our guitarist (Emyr) guitar lessons. Taking lessons from one of our inspirations is a humbling experience and the knowledge we have gained from him, really shaped the songs on Dusk / Dawn.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

A photo? I think that is the weirdest but it really shocked us as we were so shocked we were asked. Nothing very odd has come up yet, but happy to be surprised!

13. What do you think of your fans?

Love them. Love them all. We are so grateful for the support over the years and seeing the reaction to Dusk / Dawn is incredible. We will forever and always be thankful to our fans.

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s amazing, reading about so many artists in their approach to music and what they have up and coming. So easy to just get lost in reading the stories about all these musicians.

15. Something to add?

We just want to say thank you so much for your support it means the absolute world to us. We will have plenty more to show you very soon from music to videos and everything else.
