Interviews: EXES FOR EYES

In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the  Metal band EXES FOR EYES from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

James and I (Dave) named the band after the first song we recorded together. It ended up being track 3 on our first album, and lyrically it painted such a vivid picture in our minds that we thought it would make a great band name!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

When you first start playing any type of music, I think its because you want to sound like the bands you listen to. The songs and bands that give you that indescribable feeling....you want to try and recreate that. eventually, you develop your own sound, your own voice, and it grows into something you didn't think was possible. sometimes you get into playing other music. but other times you go from jamming Metallica and Pantera tunes in your friend's basement to playing festivals in front of 1000s of people.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

I (Dave) knew James for 6 years before starting Exes. Our old bands played together often. I've known Aaron (drums) since we were 16/17...we grew up in the same scene back in the late 90s early 2000s and played a ton of shows together I've known Graham for about 15 years. We went to different schools but as you grow older, the scene thins. He was one of the dudes that kept playing. I recorded his old band, and we reconnected once we were looking for a member to take Exes on the road back in 2011.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Dave - Ozzy Osbourne
James - NIN
Aaron - Chore
Graham - Periphery

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Musically, I've really been trying to just get what I hear in my head onto the computer. I don't know a lot of musical theory so I need to fumble about for a while before I get it. the inspiration is clearing my head. with all the sounds in there day-to-day, it gets confusing sometimes. writing helps free up my mental hard drive. plus, I want people to think I'm cooler than I actually am!

6. Where was your last gig?

Keswick, NB, Canada... The East Coast Awakening festival with our good friends in The Agonist. It was 3 years ago. Quite a long time to go without a show, but we're going to be changing that with the release of the 3rd album "Of Strength And Sorrow"

7. Where would you like to act?

I really want to head back to Europe again. My time with Annihilator was such a blast, and I'd love to experience it all again with my bandmates in Exes. Out of all the places we played, I didn't get to play in the UK. I'd love to do a UK tour. I want to see Graham (Bass) in Ireland. I want to drink with Graham in Ireland. I want all of us to drink with Graham in Ireland. hahaha!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Collectively, one of our favorite bands is Soilwork. I think we'd mesh very well with their fanbase (as we ARE IN their fanbase). Speed (Strid) was on our 2nd album "Tongues Like Figure Eights" and also produced James' (Vocals) on the final release for his old band (Endast), "Thrive". They have been doing bus-tours for almost 20 years, and I'd love to have them show us the ropes. Plus, they're all super cool guys, and we already get along very well.

9. Whom not?

We'd never rule anyone out.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I think we always get a little anxious before a set, but I wouldn't call it stage fright. It's that gut-tingle that just reminds you you're alive. The four of us have experienced some "Pinch Me, This is too good to be true" moments in music, and that little tingle is just life reassuring you it's not a dream!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

All of us had a band or 12 that inspired us to do what we do, but I think our own band is the biggest inspiration. We create some really good music, have a hell of a time on the road, and people seem to enjoy being around us. The inspiration is the experiences we collect BEING IN Exes For Eyes.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

A Male fan once asked me if he could put his eggs inside me. I think I knew what he meant. I think.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We don't have fans, we have friends! We're very fortunate to have friends all over the world that enjoy what we do and support us. I would like more of these friends!

14. What do you think of our site?

The site is cool! I like how you've done your best to subdivide genres to make it easy for people to search within the styles of music they enjoy, or to branch out and look for new music

15. Something add?

It needs more Exes For Eyes!
