Interviews: Maggot Cave

In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Grindcore band Maggot Cave from Australia. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

It’s from Metal Slug 2. The level with the cave full of maggots.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

The last generation of great Aussie Grindcore is winding down and we need new bands to keep up the scene. We grew up seeing bands like Blood Duster, The Kill, Captain Cleanoff, Agents of Abhorrence, etc.. They don’t really play much anymore so it’s time for new cunts to keep up Australia’s reputation as world-class grinders.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We all take Rohypnol recreationally so no.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Alex: Ramones

Muzz: Mandek Penha

Dave: Magic Dirt 5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Muzz: listening to insane drummers

Alex: Cannibal Corpse, Captain Cleanoff & Discordance Axis (at the moment)

Dave: Beers, broads’n’power chords!

6. Where was your last gig?

July 12 at the Lady Hampshire in Sydney with Maggot Bath, Suppressant, Crackhead, Carnal Viscera and Meat Sombrero. It was meant to be at a warehouse, but last time we played there it got a bit out of hand and the cops came and shut it down. The venue got shut down by the council next day. Sydney is very regulated with stuff like venue licencing and residents making noise complaints, so things keep getting shut down and moved around.

7. Where would you like to act?

Muzz and his girlfriend have wanted to make a lo-fi home production for a while now…. We’ll play anywhere in Australia even though it’s tough logistically. We’d love to tour Japan and check out the crazy shit going on over there. Also playing OEF or Brutal Assault in Europe would be sick.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

International: Gutalax, Nick Cave, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Agathocles, Six Brew Bantha, Sissy Spacek, Gendo Ikari, BrucexCampbell, Archagathus, Nahu, Sete Star Sept, Mellow Harsher, The Afternoon Gentlemen, ACxDC, Bastard Noise

Local: Internal Rot, Captain Cleanoff, Sadistik Exekution, Hard Ons, Christ Crusher 9. Whom not? Black Rheno

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Not since high school. Our tips for beginners are to play in front of the mirror the night before and have 2 beers (no more!!) before the show.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Dave: Rupture because they did whatever they wanted & Chad Morgan because he’s been DIY touring the Australian countryside for over 65 years.

Alex: Soundgarden – Never saw brown people represented in heavy music much until I heard SG and I had a poster of Kim Thayil on my wall when I was 14 and also Face To Face because of their hectic basslines.

Muzz: Warsore, Mortalized, SMG... Bands who are good at recording.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

To sign a shirt addressed to him saying: “Robert, you are a Wild Stallion. Alex!!!” We told him the shirt was white and he ceased communication

13. What do you think of your fans?

People who listen to Grindcore are awesome. People who manage to leave their house and go to shows are awesome. People who leave the house to go to under-promoted shows in clandestine venues with extreme obscure bands playing are dead set legends.

14. What do you think of our site?

You’re doing a good job. Giving exposure to non-mainstream bands is important to work. We hope you get fame and riches. We have one too https://maggotcave.com

15. Something to add?

Our new album “Pub Full of Maggots” is out on cassette tape in August and can be pre-ordered/purchased from our Bandcamp page https://maggotcave.bandcamp.com/ Follow us on facebook and twitter to see when we’re playing. https://www.facebook.com/maggotcavehttps://twitter.com/maggotcave
