Interviews: Red Hymns

In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the  Post-Hardcore/Alternative Rock band Red Hymns from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name?

We had just finished recording Vol.1 and realized we still didn’t have a name for the band. We all started exchanging band names and Jeremy threw Red Hymns to the table. The following day Rob sent us a text in our group chat of a google search he had done on Red Hymns and stumbled upon a picture of a Red book that read Alexander’s Hymns, the rest is history.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

My writing style tends to gear towards this genre unintentionally. My writing style is a mix of all the things I love when it comes music.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We’ve all known each other for many years playing shows together with the bands we were currently in at the time.

4. Each band member’s favorite band?

We are huge He Is Legend fans, Fugazi, Quicksand, Radiohead and so many more.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I get inspired at the moment. Some riffs just come to me out of the blue so I try and record as much of it as I can. The guys get a good chuckle out of it because I’ll literally just stop what I’m doing, grab my phone and if I don’t have a guitar present I’ll just start humming things into my voice memo, drum beats and all. It allows me to reference it at a later date without forgetting it.

6. Where was your last gig?

The last gig we played was with He is a legend at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn, NY. It was a pretty rad night and the He Is Legend boys are super cool humble dudes.

7. Where would you like to perform?

A bucket list of mine would be to play at PlayStation Theatre in NYC or do a cool run somewhere overseas like Japan or Europe.

8. What band’s would you like to play shows with?

I would love to tour with Deftones, Thrice, Glassjaw, Killswitch Engage, Alter Bridge, Quicksand, and Gojira to name a few

9. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Stage fright sucks, especially when you throw anxiety in the mix. I remember when we would play bigger shows before we’d hit the stage I couldn’t sit still for the life of me and I would start second-guessing every little thing. I use to just want to get on stage and get it over with. Just take the time to give yourself a boost of confidence. It sounds silly but it helps. When you feel uneasy go get some fresh air and tell yourself “You’re the shit, get up there, kill it and have fun” The more you do it, the easier it gets. Repetition is key.

10. What bands have inspired you the most?

Bands like Thrice, Quicksand, Deftones, etc.

11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Nothing too crazy, but we’ve definitely had some crazy guy repeatedly shout “SLAYER!” at every show.

12. What do you think of your fans?

Our fans are rad! Thank y’all for the outpouring of love and support you’ve given us!

13. Anything you’d like to add?
