Interviews: Underwater Lights

In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Death Metal band Underwater Lights from  Spain. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

It is the name of the song we were working on, just when we needed a new name for the band. Previously we use to be Chapter Hate, but that was just a transition name that doesn't really represent what we want to be.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We don't want to focus on a specific genre. The "Progressive Metal" tag gives us the freedom to do whatever we want at any time. A guess it works for us.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Alex, Hector, and Raul were friends before. Bogdan and I (Arc) arrive into the family for the occasion.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Alex: Erra
Arc: Radiohead
Bogdan: Converge
Raúl: Michael Jackson
Hector: Rammstein

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Each song has its own flow, but it always comes from a mix of previously recorded ideas. Those ideas sprout without warning. I suppose the emotions of a specific moment invoke them. You need to be kind of organized to catch them and conserve them. That could be the seed they have in common. So the roots are definitely feelings.

6. Where was your last gig?

We played in Madrid last week, in a little pub called "La Mala". It is the perfect place to try new things on stage or in front of the stage, among the public. We had a great time. It was probably our best show so far.

7. Where would you like to act?

We can't wait to play in festivals, for a greater public that doesn't know us.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

The Dillinger Escape Plan. That would be possible if they come back on stage.

9. Whom not?

The Beatles, because that would only be possible if we are dead or they come back from who knows where. We are not prepared for any of those scenarios.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

We enjoy being on stage. I'm not sure that there's any specific tip that works for everybody. Practicing a lot could work for being more confident. If you are confident about your performance and your mate's skills, you can play comfortably and focus on fun. If there's not fun, I don't know if it makes sense to be on stage. I had mates that just decided to return to their room to play alone. It's okay.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Opeth, Textures, Mastodon, Gojira, Devin Townsend...

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Nothing weird for now. Ask again in a couple of years.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are wonderful, all 3.

14. What do you think of our site?

You do a remarkable job. I love sites that give space to beginners like us. It is the opportunity to know what happens down the radar.

15. Something add?

Thanks for reading, people! We would love to read from you now!
