Interviews: VOKONIS

In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Metal band VOKONIS from  Sweden. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

It just came out like it did. I don’t really how it came to me but it’s totally made up. It sounds good though in my opinion.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Me, Jonte and Emil began the band out of Sabbath-worship. Later it evolved into a more progressive-rock/metal kind of thing. Mostly because I always loved bands like Opeth, Mastodon and such. We like to challenge ourselves while writing.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

No, we did not.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Simon: Opeth

Jonte: Misfits

Peter: Quicksand

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Everything in life can be an inspiration for us since it’s our creative outlet. We have to write to not get depressed haha! Topics in general that can motivate lyrics or themes are social injustice, racism, sexism and the way humanity treats our planet.

6. Where was your last gig?

We played in our hometown with Greenleaf and Electric Hydra. It was awesome! It’s not often we play at home so it’s cool to get to go home to your own bed after playing haha!

7. Where would you like to act?

(I'd say play) We’d love to play around Europe. Roadburn in Tilburg, NL is something of a dream. Also Psycho Las Vegas! Seems like a wild party.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Mastodon would be a dream to open for.

9. Whom not?

We’d play with literally everyone if they’re nice people and we feel we could complement each other musically.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I had stage fright in the start of the band. But nowadays it’s cool. The best thing to do is to rehearse and make sure you know your songs and to know each other musically. It’s a good thing to not drink alcohol as that tends to just make you play worse. If you feel secure mentally you’re going to play a great show. Drink coffee instead.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Bands like Elder, Skraeckoedlan, and Mastodon inspire us a lot. They´re bands that work hard and challenge themselves musically at the same time.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We don’t get a lot of weird requests. Unfortunately.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love our fans! We wouldn’t be able to do this without them.

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s great! Every site that promotes the heavy underground is very important and we are so thankful for it!

15. Something add?

Thanks for reading and we hope you like our music!
