Interviews: Waingro

In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Rock band Waingro from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The idea came from watching the movie Heat by Michael Mann. My brother and I always thought it would be a great band name cause he was such a shitty dude in the movie. Plus his near skullet is amazing…

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We love bands that encompass more than one style, so we liked using Stoner Rock as a jumping off point and then adding other influences to shape it in different ways.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Benjie (drums) and I played in a couple of bands before and he was one of the first people I met when I moved to Vancouver. Nate, I met when he tried out for the band and we all hit it off!

4. Each band member favorite band?

Benjie: Propagandhi & Fugazi

Nate: the Sadies & Sharp Teeth

Brian: Steely Dan.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We're just excited to play music, so when we get together to play we get stoked off each other.

6. Where was your last gig?

The last show we played was at the Rickshaw Theater in Vancouver with Baptists and Pig Destroyer. It was amazing.

7. Where would you like to act?

West Coast US.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Gaythiest. Or if you could swing us a feature with Converge that would be pretty sweet!

9. Whom not?

We’ll play with anybody.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Oof, there’s no real cure for that except to trust in the music you’ve (hopefully) been rehearsing, cause no matter what, people will respect a tight band and that always comes across well. And the more shows you play it gets easier. But yeah, still get it...

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

I’d say our friend’s bands. We’re very fortunate to be surrounded by a ton of great bands in Vancouver, and being around so many great musicians you can’t really be a slouch. So it makes you want to practice a whole bunch when you go to see local shows.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Change to buy merch from the band next to us.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We’re still a pretty young band, so we’re still building up a base, but it's really flattering to see repeat people at shows and when they bring friends along.

14. What do you think of our site?

It's great that you’re willing to take the time to help bands out and get more exposure!

15. Something add?

Thanks for the support!
