Interviews: The Colony

In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock/Metal band The Colony from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The name for the band was an easy one, Aaron (guitar) said what's another name for a group and we landed with a Colony so then we stuck with it and just said that's the name. We are a group of guys playing together ao we are The Colony.. easy.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

The type of genre we play isn't something we decided to play it just happened. We played covers for years and then as we got on a bit we wanted to go heavier and we then wanted to take all the best bits from our favorite bands.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

The line we have now we didn’t. I and Riki (guitar and drums) being brothers started the band at high school. We knew George from Skating but was never musical with each other till his old band split and our old bass player was in that band too so it was a natural fit. We met Pete (Vocals) back in 2010 when we were all either at University and work and we just advertised.

4. Each band member favorite band?

That's a tough one as we all have different influences and styles. Riki is into hip hop but also lives metal. I would have to say collectively its Metallica, Iron Maiden, Killswitch Engage, Architects, Any Given Day. I'm a big fan of The Devil Wears Prada. We all got into Wagewar recently, those guys are amazing.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Normally we wouldn’t get inspired to write anything until we are all in creative mode. Its sometimes not easy to get into, inspiration isn't a 9-5 thing. But in saying that when we are finished writing an album, its hard to get out of creative mode and get into performance and business model. This new album we didn’t want to be inspired by other bands or take ideas from bands, so we had our ideas and just jammed them and see where it took us naturally. We have our longest song we’ve written on this record and we are super proud of it.

6. Where was your last gig?

The last gig we played was the Stereo Bar and Venue in our home town of sunny Glasgow. (It always rains there)

7. Where would you like to act?

One of our dreams is to play the barrowlands in Glasgow, The legendary ABC venue which unfortunately burned down and another personal one would be live with Jools Holland.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

I can't really speak for everyone but I would love to do a track with Adam D from Killswitch. But as a more reachable feature, I would say Toni from Darkness Divine! Shes awesome vocalist checks them out.

9. Whom not?

To be honest I would feature with anyone! Music is an art, not a competition, all are welcome.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Oh hell yeah! Back in the early days, we still get nervous today, not as much stage fright. For the beginners, it's like anything the more you play live the more you get confident. Its all about being super comfortable with the guys on stage as well, if one person isn’t giving it all they got that can bring the dynamic down in the performance.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

We all got into music at an early age, I can say for sure Metallica was one of the first then everyone just went from there, as time went everyone's inspirations changed, ours vary from Metalcore to Rock sometimes pop, Hip Hop and dance. Too many bands to name.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Nothing too weird, I think we all felt pretty weird when people first started asking for our autographs on T-shirts and taking pictures. We’re just 5 guys playing music from Glasgow and people want our pictures. It was surreal but very weird at the same time. I also signed a guys ass... that was pretty funny.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love all our fans, the fact that people love the music and the message we put into the songs its amazing. They feel the emotion with us and sing along if they don't know the words they still headbang and that's just as good. If our fans are enjoying the music, live or streamed then that's all we can ask for! We love you guys!

14. What do you think of our site?

You guys are awesome! I think its really amazing that you guys are doing what so few news and media sites are doing and that's focussing on the little guys. The bands that are up and coming, giving them the platform, time and appreciation that they deserve!

15. Something add?

Yep! New single ‘Here We Stand’ out now and our new Album ‘Smoke and Mirrors’ out September 28th - on all platforms. Just go onto the big carte for all the merch and hard copy of CDs and as always any requests just send a message!
