Interviews: LAMASSU

In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the  Hard Rock band LAMASSU from Australia. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We spent months trying to find a name, coming up with the idea after idea but none were quite right. A couple of times we thought we’d landed on the right one but we’d lose interest and end up back at square one. Eventually, Matt suggested Lamassu and it stuck.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I’ve never wanted to play any particular genre as such, it’s just what came out. I’ve always been into heavy music, growing up listening to Pantera, Sepultura, Soundgarden, AIC, I guess I was bound to end up playing heavy riff-based music.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Each member of Lamassu play in at least one other heavy band here in Melbourne, so we all knew each other from the local scene and playing shows together. Matt and I were fans of each other and jammed one day, the rest is history.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Nick: Kyuss

Chris: Soundgarden

Matt: Led Zeppelin

Al: Death From Above 1979

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

There are two main factors drives our inspiration to write. Firstly, other bands. We all have a very active music listening lifestyle and the old classics always get revisited which is part of it, but I think the new and local bands are the greater inspiration for us to write. We have a very active music scene in Melbourne, and I would say almost all our friends play or are involved in music somehow, and seeing such great talented bands providing constant surprises makes us want to continue being involved and keep going. Secondly, I think the biggest inspiration factor is each other. We all feel lucky to be in this band with one another, and feed our creativity and motivation to keep going from jamming, hanging out and just being in the band together.

6. Where was your last gig?

Lamassu played in Melbourne last Saturday night at a great little venue called Last Chance Rock ‘n’ Roll Bar. We had an awesome time playing with some awesome bands who are also awesome friends. It was a blast playing alongside Grey Mantis and Borrachero, whom we have deep musical ties with, and riffed out tracks from our soon to be released album. A psychedelic light show was also organized for the gig, which really took the night to the next level. We love Melbourne.

7. Where would you like to act?

It’s a collective dream for us to play at something such as Duna Jam, yet as long as the vibe is good and the beer is cold, we’re pretty happy. It’s just great to be onstage, share our music and meet rad people.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Although the temptation is to write down a long list all the big names in heavy music, some of the best shows happen when you support mates.

9. Whom not?

Anyone with a negative attitude or trumpets!

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

We’re all fairly experienced at being on stage, so It’d be a rare occasion for us get stage fright, however, you can help beat it by using fog machines. Not only do they look cool and add atmosphere, but if you set it to max no one can see you. Get two birds stoned at once.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

A wide range of well-known big-name bands such as Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Kyuss, Sleep, along with the local underground bands in Australia.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

No-one has asked for anything weird, yet something being weird is subjective, and we are weird people, so this may have occurred already without us noticing. However, we had been asked for an answer to who has been waiting for our long-awaited album… 13. What do you think of your fans? We highly appreciate anyone that takes the time to listen to our music or see our gigs, you’re all legends.

14. What do you think of our site?

We love the work you do and how broad and all-encompassing it is. Heavy music needs more motivated supporters like BTC and we thank you for including us on it.

15. Something add?

Our album ‘INTO THE EMPTY’ will be released 2 September, available to purchase on 12” vinyl, CD and digital download via Bandcamp. It will also be streaming on all platforms…oh, and Praise the Riff!
