Interviews: Neon Insect

In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Avant-Garde/Industrial project Neon Insect from Germany. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

I don’t really know where or when I had the idea, but I know where it came from. There was a spaceship video game series I used to play a lot in the 2000s. In this game you could hunt for “space flies”, which I always imagined as neon green shining insects. And I liked the idea of being a “Neon Insect” flying through space to discover new worlds.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I grew up listening to industrial music and I always found it was a very creative style. I like it for the grittiness, which leaves room for so many experiments.

3. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

The world I created around “New Moscow Underground” was inspired by George Orwell’s “Nineteen Eighty-Four”. It also inspired to create those songs, as It was easy to put myself into the shoes of a citizen or a rebel in New Moscow and to write about their experiences and their thoughts.

4. Where would you like to act?

I’d like to play in Tokyo and maybe Mexico City one day, if I ever go back on stage. Tokyo has a very unique music scene and I think a packed house in Mexico City would just be nuts.

5. Whom would you like to feature with?

Skinny Puppy would be pretty dope.

6. Whom not?

Any fascist band or so. But I don’t know any by name that I could call them out.

7. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I do, but once the step on stage is made, it’s actually alright. It catches up after the gig usually for me.

8. What bands have inspired you the most?

Tough question. I like a lot, I listened to a lot and it’s kinda hard to say which of them inspired me more.

9. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

So far the weirdest thing I do on a regular basis, is to sign stuff, when people request that. But other than that, there weren’t any weird requests so far. Sorry to disappoint.

10. What do you think of your fans?

I appreciate them, of course. It’s special to me, that people spend time of their day to listen to my work. I think as an artist, you can be very happy to be surrounded by such great people, who support you and even have words of encouragement, when it’s a bit tougher.

11. What do you think of our site?

Your site is really cool. Very slick and easy to navigate, but most importantly the variety of artists you support and offer a platform to be featured. Thanks for doing that.

12. Something add?

My new album “New Moscow Underground” is available on August 31st. It will be available as CD, cassette and there are also shirts to buy on neoninsect.bandcamp.com/releases. You can pre-order today. Go check it out!
