Interviews: One Way Live

In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore/Post-Hardcore band One Way Live from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

One Way to Live comes from the idea that nothing is ever as it seems, and we only have one way to make sense of life: with integrity, strength, and an open mind. It was planned out with the close acronym "OWL", with the idea that we live life from a distance and crave to know what lies behind the surface. Society had instilled norms and standards years ago that not everyone can adhere to, and it's time those chains are broken. It's often those who are different that make a difference; those who stand out aren't often accepted, those who stand up aren't at first acknowledged, and those who think outside of the box aren't always understood. Outsiders are those who refuse to live along with the status quo, those who are different. One Way to Live embodies this notion, that if you are an outsider, you have a great chance to change the future and teach those around you a valuable lesson.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We had begun playing a hybrid of metalcore and nu-metal, staying true to our roots. We have an array of influence from East-Coast hardcore, hip-hop, thrash, and metalcore that meshed into a fluid style we've defined as our own. Whatever you wish to label that style is up to you. We play music from the soul, and we play what our #OWLCREW wants to hear

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We've known eachother since grade school and formed the band under the alias Knife to a Gunfight, and decided to change our name to produce our first EP in 2015.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Ryan Graham: Bullet for My Valentine, As I Lay Dying

Dylan Graham: Metallica, Slayer

Kevin Marquez: Guns N' Roses, Miss May I

Ryan Schraeder: Parkway Drive, Terror, Jedi Mind Tricks

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Life events inspire our lyrical content, and musical ideas inspire us to write. We hear a hook, riff, or drum pattern that starts our rhythmic drive and we set sail. This usually comes from any genre, we are all widely-versed in our taste of music.

6. Where was your last gig?

09/13 at Moe's Tavern!

7. Where would you like to act?

Chain Reaction, El Corazon, Franklin Music Hall, Gas Monkey, Summit Music Hall. Anywhere who will have us we'd be honored. We love to play when we can!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

As I Lay Dying, Fit for a King, Sylar, Upon A Burning Body, Kingdom of Giants, Unearth, Gojira, Stray From The Path, Architects, While She Sleeps, Traitors, Afterlife Anyone we could collaborate with or gig with would be a great opportunity for us to grow.

9. Whom not?

There aren't any bands we refuse to work with.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

All of us in the band have suffered with stage fright, and it's a defining factor of your dedication as a musician. If you are hungry to show the world what you have made, it's natural to be nervous. On the other hand, it's also your ice breaker. Remember that everyone in the crowd is a potential friend, fan, and concert-goer just like you. Being on stage is a chance for you to practice what you preach. Plus, it helps when you have friends alongside you who are fighting the same fight...so find a good band of like-minded musicians.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

As I Lay Dying, Slayer, Killswitch Engage, Metallica, All That Remains, Miss May I, Fit For a King

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

To buy a CD. It's not weird to us. Don't be afraid to ask, we are family 🙏

13. What do you think of your fans?

Our fans are our lifeblood. We wouldn't exist without their support. The #OWLCREW are just like us, and you all are more important than you know. 🙏

14. What do you think of our site?

It's solid!

15. Something you'd like to add?

More Spotify links and streaming emphasis in your headers, footers, etc. Thank you!
