Interviews: State Of Deceit

In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Metal/Metal/Thrash Metal band State Of Deceit from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We went back and forth for several months, looking for the right name, once we came up with State of Deceit it resonated on a couple of levels with the different interpretations, both of which we reflect in our lyrics.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

It’s the only genre we would want to play, we all love metal, so many sub genres to explore and mix in. We all have different preferences of sub genre’s and bringing them together and showing each other the best bits inspires us.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Matt W and Jon have known each other for a couple of years, playing in different bands originally on the same gigs. It took some time to find all the right members to fit the style and direction they wanted to go in and have to thank internet ads for helping discover Matt T and Pete.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Pete: Probably Fit For A King

Jon: Hard to pin it down to a singular favourite, but at the moment I’m enjoying the new Killswitch Engage Album

Matt W: Cannibal Corpse at the moment

Matt T: Always had a soft spot for Metallica but also loving Slipknot and Parkway Drive

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

The current state of the world, interest events, injustices and bullshit we see generally inspires the lyrics. Musically it’s about writing sick riffs and then playing with the beats to create small musical explosions throughout the songs, that make you want to jump around.

6. Where was your last gig?

We played Fuel Rock club in Cardiff, which is a great metal venue and the only real live metal venue in Cardiff for local bands. We put on the gig ourselves and choose a line up of super local bands that we enjoy, the crowd was great. We tried out our new vertical smoke machines, which swamped the place and we couldn’t see anyone for a whole song!

7. Where would you like to play?

Any festivals big or small, any venue is good, we just want to play in front of as many people as possible as we know it’s going to go off, when we do our thing on stage.

8. Who would you like to support?

We’d like to support lots of different bands so we can see the show! Rammstein for their crazy live show and so we can roast some marshmallows. Kreator would be great to see Mille Petrozzi up close for his smoking fretwork. Attila for always bringing the pizza and the party atmosphere.

9. Who not?

We’ll play with almost anyone once! Although we’d probably turn down Kanye West the biggest ‘rock star’ on the planet.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

There’s always a pressure to do your best and when you’re doing your first few gigs, nothing will really prepare you for the added pressure of not wanting to fuck it up in front of a crowd of people. Everyone goes through it and it can make you lose the tempo, forget lines or parts, make your hands stiffen up. The biggest tip for beginners is always starting with something easy to play to open the set and have more technical stuff towards the end, once you’ve built some confidence and most importantly enjoy yourself!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Lots of the usual popular metal bands in the genre: Pantera, Architects, Slayer, BMTH some less obvious: Stampin’ Ground, Kill2This, Pissing Razors. But at the moment, what’s really exciting us is the South Wales metal scene, there is a lot of quality bands which are providing us with new inspiration.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

‘To play the BC Rich’ guitar, this has become a long running joke with local metal band ‘Sepulchre’ and much heckling while playing. It’s our backup guitar but they love the brand, so much so they did a home-made sign for one of our gigs to hold up in the crowd. It’s on our social pages somewhere.

13. What do you think of your fans?

What can we say! We’re so thankful that people take interest in what we do! We're eager to take our current fans on our journey and hopefully pick up some new ones on the way, our ambition is to have a huge party after headlining Download.

14. What do you think of our site?

It's fantastic! The fact that you give so many bands a platform to be heard and listened to. It’s a major help to get to the next level of engagement and reach more people!

15. Something to add?

Yes! Go check out ‘Vengeance’ now on Youtube! ‘Retribution’ Will be released on all the normal platforms: Apple Music, Spotify etc on 6th December 2019!
