Interviews: Celestial Ruin

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Hard Rock band Celestial Ruin from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

LARISSA: Adam came up with the name. He actually thought up the band name several years before any other members joined the project.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

LARISSA: Everyone is actually open to a variety of genres. We love to play rock music in general. It has everything you need. Emotion, energy and allows you to blur the lines between several genres.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

LARISSA: No. I was brought to Adam's attention through a friend of his who owned an Indie record label in Calgary. He came across a youtube video of me singing at a local karaoke bar in Vancouver. He arranged the meeting between us. I sang a few songs and by the end of the night, Adam asked me to be the singer of the band. Mike joined about 3 months later. Thassana is the newest member. He's only been with us for the last two years.

4. Each band member favorite band?

LARISSA: Halestorm, In This Moment, Nightwish, Kamelot

MIKE: Motley Crue

ADAM: Nightwish

THASSANA: Dream Theatre, NIN, Muse

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

LARISSA: That is a tough question. I get inspiration for my lyrics and melodies from a lot of different things. I always get my inspiration from life experiences and my emotions. Where was your last gig?

LARISSA: Our next gig is much more important, lol. We are having our Music Video Release Party at The Red Room in Vancouver on November 23rd, 2019. We will be debuting the video for HEART SHAPED ASHES. The song was produced in LA by Mike Plotnikoff (In Flames, Halestorm, The Cranberries, Three Days Grace). The video was Directed and Edited by Dave Benedict (Bass Player for Default and Bonds of Mara). We are beyond excited. We don't play many local shows unless we are opening for a touring band. Our last major opening slot was for Sonata Arctica and Leaves' Eyes.

7. Where would you like to act?

LARISSA: I would love to play a sold-out crowd in a hotel on the Las Vegas Strip! Any of the major hotels like MGM, Caesar's Palace. My ultimate goal would be to have a residency there.

MIKE: I wanna play Madison Square Gardens in New York city! I have played festivals before which is the coolest atmosphere you can be in as a musician in my opinion but that said, I have always thought of MSG as my personal pinnacle of performance venues. I couldn't even tell you why to be honest. Anybody that knows me would likely think an L.A. venue because SoCal is was and always will be a second home for Larissa and me both, but there is just something magical about MSG for me. I will add though, locally here in Vancity it's the Commodore Ballroom and that's because of so many incredible shows I have seen there when I was barely old enough ( or not old enough once or twice) hehehe. That room has been a goal for me since the first day I knew I wanted to play rock and roll for a living. And damn it, I haven't yet!! Clyde!!!!!!???!! Lol Aside from that once I hit my first note every stage I've ever played on has become the biggest and best place in the world.

ADAM: Wacken Metal Festival, because it's legendary!

THASSANA: Wembley Stadium

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

LARISSA: There are so many, lol. I would love to play on the same bill as Halestorm, In This Moment, Nightwish. Even Lady Gaga! I would love to sing an insane rock/pop duet with her lol.

MIKE: Too many to list but the list would start with Sebastian Bach

ADAM: Halestorm

THASSANA: Steve Vai, Eric Clapton

9. Whom not?

LARISSA: We would never say never to anyone! We would consider ever offer presented to us.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

LARISSA: I wouldn't call it stage fright. I would call it anxiety! I always get super nervous before a show and especially when I am about to go on stage. The band knows to stay away when I am about to go on cause I get so freaked out lol. I don't think there is a way to “beat” it. I think as long as I care, I will be nervous.

MIKE: Stage fright? Not while I have a bass strapped to me. Speaking in front of a large group hell yes!! I have not conquered that yet

ADAM: No

THASSANA: Yes I do. I just have to perform more!!!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

LARISSA: Vocally I am inspired by Floor Jansen (Nightwish), Lzzy Hale (Halestorm), Lady Gaga, Roy Khan (Kamelot), P!nk and Adam Lambert.

MIKE: Again too many to list. I draw inspiration from many different bands(and people) for many different reasons. But that list would have to start with Mötley Crüe!

ADAM: Rage Against The Machine

THASSANA: For now, Muse.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

LARISSA: LOL. Well, We were in this awesome little miner town called Cobalt in Ontario. We had just finished our set and I had a very nice (intoxicated lol) man ask me to sign his a$$hole! LOL. I was shocked and could only laugh. He said I could take a picture of it and post it on our Instagram. I kindly declined and signed his chest instead.

MIKE: 6) Hmmm?? I've been asked for a lot of weird stuff over the course of my career (sexual and otherwise) but I'd have to say the weirdest thing I've been asked for is my number for this chicks husband... Yup.. apparently he wanted to umm.. get with me and was too afraid to ask me if I was interested. Well, I'm actually thankful it went that way because it was a lot less awkward then if he asked me himself. I have zero issues with what people do but I am not a sword fighter.. so I as nicely as I could decline but ya that was most definitely the weirdest thing I have been asked for.

ADAM: Larissa gets all the weird ones

THASSANA: Do you drink blood?

13. What do you think of your fans?

LARISSA: I LOVE our fans! Some of them have been standing by us since the very beginning. If it wasn't for them we wouldn't be able to continue to do what we love. I love meeting our fans after shows and being able to show them we are just normal people who love music.

MIKE: I think our fans are pretty diverse and incredibly loyal. The fans we had from the beginning are still with us through three very evolutionary (albums) and we gain new fans every day. I love each and every one of them because if it wasn't for our fans we would not still be together and playing great music!!

ADAM: I love them all!!

THASSANA: I love people who support me

14. What do you think of our site?

LARISSA: I think it is a great way for Indie artists to be showcased!

15. Something add?
