Interviews: Helldown

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Metal/Thrash Metal band Helldown from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The name originated from myself and Ben discussing an idea for a song called “Held down and shot”, this then merged into “Helldown” after agreeing it was the first good name we came up with and there were many bad ones ...

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We never actually decided on a genre to play. We just played what we felt was right, playing off one another and playing to our musicianship at the time, which lead to a rather unique sound of Slayer crossed with Pantera, or as some put it. The bastard son of Thin Lizzy and Slayer.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

No, we did not. This band was our first project together and we went in to the scene together no knowing what to expect.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Ross: (Iron Maiden/W.A.S.P.)

Matthew: (Metallica)

Ben: (Machine Head)

Lewis: (Rush)

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

The need to put ourselves into the music, expressing how we felt when we wrote a particular piece of music at the time it was written.

6. Where was your last gig?

The Dolls House in Abertillery, Wales.

7. Where would you like to play?

Honestly a goal of ours is to play Rock City in Nottingham because of all the iconic bands that have played that stage.

8. Who would you like to support?

SLAYERRR!

9. Who not?

Honestly cannot think of anyone we would not want to support.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

We all get a bit nervous before a show, but a couple of drinks in and were ready to lay waste anywhere.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Slayer, Pantera, Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest, Machine Head …

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

To take my guitarist home …

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are amazing, without them we would not have lasted 6 years. We are pushing the band for them, not ourselves. We want to entertain them, and we want them to join us on the journey and grow with us.

14. What do you think of our site?

We love it. It is nice to see a website displaying new bands as well as so many features that you offer through your web page.

15. Something to add?

We would just like to thank all our fans for whom have made our upcoming release possible, and to all the people who have given us the chance to perform and play live, on radio, you name it … THANK YOU!
