Interviews: Hunter Alive

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Hardcore band Hunter Alive from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Our name actually comes from our guitarist, Patrick's dog. Pat had some personal issues he was going through and claims Hunter (the dog) is the reason for keeping him positive and giving him purpose. Therefore we have, Hunter Alive

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Each of us have our own reasons, but mainly when we get together and write this is our common ground. Its something that is special and resonates with us all...there is a special energy/release in playing this type of heavy/fast/aggressive music, particularly live. We all love performing which is a major part of it but in the end it's raw and never forced. It comes from within.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes and no. Both Matt (drums) and Zach (bass) had spent some time in a band together prior to helping form Hunter Alive. Patrick (guitar) had been searching for members when he had met Matt and over the course of a year the band was formed and finalized when Jake (vocals) joined in June of 2017. We went through a member change in the summer of 2018 after touring. It wasn't until that Fall that we recruited our now lead guitarist Rohan who has contributed to a new level of melodic ambiance and shredding.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Patrick: AFI

Zach: Dillinger Escape Plan

Matt: Dance Gavin Dance

Jake: Counterparts

Rohan: Rx Bandits

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Life events, personal struggles, the enjoyment we get from jamming and just being around each other... Overall we all individually really enjoy playing music and spending time together. We want to share what we have to offer and hope that other people like what we do.

6. Where was your last gig?

Manville NJ at Northside Lounge for our record release show

7. Where would you like to act?

We definitely want to take this on the road and travel as much and as far as possible. Being a successful international band would be a dream come true.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Counterparts, Norma Jean, Knocked Loose, The Ghost Inside... anyone of those bands would be amazing.

9. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

For Patrick he would say he can't perform on stage solo, he needs to be with his band to be completely comfortable. Best advice he can give would be to practice, be solid and just do it... do the best you can! Being on stage is one of the most amazing feelings in the world.

10. What bands have inspired you the most?

We have so many different backgrounds and tastes in music we're inspired by artist like Dillinger Escape Plan, Periphery, AFI, August Burns Red, Comeback Kid, System of a Down, The Devil Wears Prada, NOFX just to name a few. But there are so many bands and genres out there. We literally listen to everything from pop to ska, and classical to death metal. There are so many talented groups its hard not to be inspired.

11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

To be honest we'd have to say that being asked for our signature at our most recent show (record release) was pretty weird. We still have a long way to go but we have amazing fans who truly believe in us. It was such an amazing gesture and something that might feel silly to us but its truly amazing to have that kind of support and belief system.

12. What do you think of your fans?

Hunter Alive fans are awesome and extremely supportive! We've had a continuous amount of support for being a newer band and we've gained a lot of respect among heavier bands and the hardcore/metal community.

14. What do you think of our site?

It's a great site for sure. It's definitely special and please continue doing what you're doing. Anything to help music and artists grow in this industry is huge. Nothing but respect!

15. Something add?

Please go listen to our debut full length record "I Decide" and share it with all your friends
