Interviews: Bloodsport

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Pop Punk/Punk Rock band Bloodsport from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We originally had the idea of being called ‘Bloodline’ because the word has a lot of family connotations to it and we’d like to think that we’re all as close with each other as family are but, the TV series had just come out on Netflix so we all had a re-think and gave Bloodsport a try… (even though it’s a very famous movie too)

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We just had an idea that we wanted to do something fun but write music that has an edge to it. We wanted to do something that would grab people’s attention but, we still wanted to play the music we like hence why there’s such a transition between ‘Bitter Taste’ and our new track ‘Sinking With The Rest’. Ideally we’d like to be able to hit the heavier tones when we’d like to but keep a balance with the lighter melodies and riffs.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We all knew each other previously from being in bands in our youth. Samuel, Rob and Sam had a little project together before this band. Samuel and Rob were in an old pop punk band called ‘This City Sleeps’ together too. Dan and Joey have been good friends since a very young age and have always hoped to be musically intertwined. Joey sang in The Departed & Outspoken Silence and Dan actually plays in a band called Three Day Millionaires with Joey’s brother.

Samuel - Every Time I Die

Daniel - The Bronx

Sam - Sport

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I think because we’ve all been so heavily influenced by music throughout our lives we all have different outlets. For example, Rob went to Ozzfest in 2002 and used to watch old Metallica videos all the time which inevitably made him want to write/record music where as Samuel has a lot of emotional attachment to certain artists and certain songs and tries to emulate that when writing Bloodsport tracks.

6. Where was your last gig?

@divehu5 our local watering hole. It was insane or last show of 2019 and the most intimate show we’ve played to date. We played with Motherland and Loose Ends who everyone should check out.

7. Where would you like to act?

I guess we missed out but Warped Tour would have been insane.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Knuckle Puck, The Story So Far, Trash Boat, Grayscale, Seaway, Sport, Hot Water Music… too many artists.

9. Whom not?

We’d give anything a go, I think it’s more who could tolerate us as a band.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Samuel is often the only one to have an issue before a show. But as soon as we start playing it disappears, I guess it’s the initial thought before the adrenaline kicks in but… if in doubt, just breathe.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Oasis, Fleetwood Mac, Sport, Hot Water Music, The Story So Far, Knuckle Puck, Trash Boat, Sum 41.. there are far too many to list.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We play a festival in our home town every year called Humber Street Sesh. Last year we had someone ask for Joey’s sweaty stage t-shirt which was kind of strange.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love em! Every single last one of them and even the people we don’t know about. Fans are what keeps this whole dream alive, if people didn’t like our shit we wouldn’t have the drive or focus to even be doing this so yeah, yuge thank you to all our s’porters.

14. What do you think of our site?
