Interviews: ELDEN

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metal band ELDEN from Sweden. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Torsten: We started the band in 2011 and had a really hard time finding a good name. We discussed names like “Mammoth, Mammoth”, “Black moon” and “Elden”. Tons of ideas, but the collective vote fell on “Atlas”. It was a good name, but we weren’t nearly the only Atlas out there. When we signed to Fuzzorama earlier this year we felt we needed a name change to something less generic. This time Elden felt right. Elden actually means “The Fire” in Swedish, but that’s not why I like it, personally. I like the name because it looks cool and sounds great.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Kalle: We met through a mutual interest in bands like Black Sabbath and The Sword so I guess the stoner/doom rock thing kind of came naturally. Nowadays though I think we have moved away a little from that and are probably more metal than anything else.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Claes: No, we met through the music we liked and decided to start some kind of heavy riff based rock band.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Torsten: Probably Guns N’ Roses, but right now I listen mostly to Neil Young, Tool and Kiss.

Kalle: It varies, but all time, probably Judas Priest. - Kalle

Claes: Hard to answer, but I listen to a lot of instrumental music in different genres. Jimi Hendrix and Deep Purple has always been the foundation since young days.

Alex: I’d say Blue Öyster Cult but according to Spotify, Mastodon has been my favourite band for the last 10 years.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Alex: I think we get inspired by a lot of different things – other musicians, art, movies, tv-series and so on. What inspires me the most is when the other guys comes up with new riffs and ideas for songs. I love to hear a new song and get a feeling for what kind of lyrics I want to write. We all usually have an input on a song before it is finished but it almost always starts with someone bringing a riff to rehearsal.

6. Where was your last gig?

Torsten: The last gig was in the small town of Cakovec, Croatia, two years ago. The day before that we opened for Stoned Jesus in Zagreb.

7. Where would you like to act?

Kalle: Right now, somewhere warm haha! We haven't yet toured that much outside of Sweden, so I bet we have a lot of cool places to discover!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Claes: Q.O.T.S.A, Mastodon or High on Fire would be a great combo for us. Hopefully soon!

9. Whom not?

Alex: I´d play with pretty much anyone who’s not an a**hole.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Kalle: I have, and still do some times. I try to be as well prepared as possible. Other than that I don't think there's much you can do. It gets better the more you do it. Oh, and it's about having fun. Try to relax.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Kalle: All of us come from different musical backgrounds so we have a really broad spectrum of influences. I personally get really inspired by bands that keep evolving but still manages to sound great. Having said that, I also love AC/DC.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Claes: Once a guy asked if I could pour beer down his pants. And like the gentleman I am, I fulfilled his wish.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Alex: We cannot stress enough how important our fans are to us. Even though we’re not the biggest band in the world the support has been incredible. It’s amazing to us that people all around the world buy and listen to our music on a regular basis. Our fans are everything to us and we’re super excited for them to hear our new songs!

14. What do you think of our site?

Torsten: Looks really cool, seems like a great platform for bands and labels

15. Something add?

Kalle: Check out our new singles Sail & Savour and Anubis. On all streaming services and Youtube now. The new album, Nostromo, drops on January 24 and can be pre-ordered through Fuzzorama Records.
