Interviews: Solarys

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Power Metal/Progressive Metal band Solarys from Spain. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

When we formed the band our guitarrist was reading the book “Solaris”, from Stanislaw Lem. In the end, its a fiction book that talks about human relationships, about our fears and how difficult can be communicate with other culture. We thought it was a good name for the band because of our lyrics and our kind of music. We just changed the “i” for a “y”.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We love it. We have been playing this kind of music in different bands for more than 20 years and it comes naturally.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, Manuel, our singer and Salva, our guitar player, were playing together in another band. Also they knew and were friend of Rafael, who played in several bands in Córdoba, our city, because he is an amazing drummer and every band there wanted to have him in is line-up. Also Rafael knew our bassist, Andrés, from an audition in other band. We meet and we have a special feeling since the first day.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Salva: Conception.

Manuel: Anthrax.

Andrés: Tool

Rafael: Dream Theater

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We get inspiration in different ways. Sometimes it comes from something we have seen or lived and we start writting about it, sometimes it comes just the music when some of us is walking and sometimes just we start to jam at the rehearsal room and the magic comes.

6. Where was your last gig?

In our town, in Córdoba, two years ago. Since then, we have been focused in writting and recording our new album.

7. Where would you like to act?

Wacken Open Air and 70000 tons of metal 8. Whom would you like to feature with? Too many... we ́d like to feature Avantasia. And we’d like Roy Khan and Rafael Bittencourt write and play a song in Solarys

9. Whom not?

Maluma.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Every time we get on stage we have are a little bit nervous because we want to play our best. It denotes responsability. You have to use the adrenaline to have fun and forget about fears because what people wants to see its the energy of a band playing. If you have fun playing it will be a good show.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Too many, but we can say Conception, Angra, Porcupine Tree, Metallica, Depeche Mode...

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

“Are you going to play some cover this night?”

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are aresome. They give us the energy to continue making music.

14. What do you think of our site?

It's an incredible database of metal music. Also a good place to find new bands to listen to. Good job!!!
