Interviews: The Tronautas

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Sludge Metal band The Tronautas from Mexico. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

It came out just like that, like most of the things we do, they come out of us hanging out and jamming; the name is a play of words for “tronados”, Spanish for “stoned” and “astronautas”, Spanish for, well, you know... and all the implications such portmanteau might conjure.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We wanted to do something heavy, brutal and melodic, where we could freely mix all our different influences, and this is what is coming out. 3. Did you know each other before the band was formed? -We have been friends for 15+ years and been in different bands and projects since the early 00’s, but not the three of us together, one day in the summer of 2017, we had a jam at the drummer’s house and it has been our base of operations ever since.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Alfredo (bass, synths): Misfits, royksopp, messer chups, esquivel!

Carlos (drums, noises): NIN, DEFTONES, MANSON, KISS

Alex (guitar, vox): Faith No More, Godspeed, Black Sabbath, Pixies, Soundgarden

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Everything and anything: our personal experiences, the world around us, other works of art; song themes range from Carlin’s observations on religion in “My god”, human exploitation through the industrial complex in “Eternal Gloom”, which are included in Olovorgo, our debut from 2018, to themes of self destruction in “Mechanics of Fear” and “Emptiness Inside” or the female-themed “She Flies” and “Lisbeth Salander” from the upcoming 2nd EP, In Doom We Trust.

6. Where was your last gig?

At the time of this writing (12/03/19), we played Laredo TX (USA) and have a hometown show this weekend, and next week we close the year with a shown in Tampico (MEX)

7. Where would you like to act?

Wherever people want to see us play our music, we gladly go. The more the merrier.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

As in collaborate with; we are open for invitations and participations with anyone interested.

9. Whom not?

That’s not something we really talk about as a band.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Nah, pre show jitters are sometimes a normal symptom of the adrenalin about to be released, so not really. As for tips for beginners, just relax and enjoy what you are about to do, and of course, proper rehearsals before each show go a long way.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

The bands that work hard to find their own identity, that’s something we look up to and try to do.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

A guy asked the singer/guitar dude for one of his picks, guy said he wanted some of that mojo we had poured on stage. The drummer was once asked for a piece of his braid, he gently declined.

13. What do you think of your fans?

First off, our fans are the best. We love to engage with the people at our shows, as well as in all our social networks, and our fans seem to share the events, assist and have a great time at our shows; we recently started a band vlog in our youtube channel, and are using it as an open place to have conversations with our fans and followers.

14. What do you think of our site?

Any website that dedicates itself to broadcast independent artists has our deepest respect and admiration; besides, the whole vibe of the website is very reminiscent of old school fanzines from the 90’s. We are very thankful of the interest in our band.

15. Something add?

If you want to buy our EPs, Olovorgo and In Doom We Trust, and other merchandise like T-shirts, stickers or pins, make sure to stop by our website, tronautas.com, where you can find links to our pages at all streaming platforms and social networks (facebook, soundcloud, youtube, spotify, myspace, instagram, etc.)
