Track By Tracks: Maven - Am I Awake? (2019)

1. Stronger Than You:

The opening track of the EP is entitled ‘Stronger Than You’. This song can be portrayed in many ways lyrically, but it is actually about emotional abuse. Not an experience I have personally had, but one someone very close to me has dealt with. To be in a controlling relationship must be horrible, and this is a view I take on the situation where I feel the victims strengths are so prominent now, they no longer feel the need to rely on such untrustworthy people and instead focus on the people who have a positive effect on their life.

2. Heart & Time:

Heart & Time is a song very close to me and my experiences. Being a stepfather isn't the easiest thing to do due to some people purposefully making it difficult by spreading lies and again controlling one's life with emotion. The pathetic attempt to cause distress in my life hasn't completely affected me as I know one day the truth will come to light and my beautiful stepdaughter will appreciate all the things I have done for her from a young age, and our relationship will only grow stronger with time. It's a bit of an "F**k You and your pathetic life" song haha.

3. Am I Alive:

The final track on this EP I feel brings a different side to Maven as our most recent guitarist, Rob had a big hand in writing it. Lyrically this song is a real positive outlook on the future. Recently becoming a stepfather and now a biological father has been one of the best things for me mentally as it makes you feel you have a new purpose in life. This song was written before I became a biological father so it was written as I was looking forward to the future. We've all made mistakes in our past, and learnt from them, so this is me trying to be the best person I can possibly be to all the close people in my life and how taking risks sometimes pays off. I never thought I'd be a role model to someone else's child, let alone become a father myself, but I wouldn't change it for the world.
