Interviews: The Alpha Structure

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Deathcore band The Alpha Structure from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Our first ever name for the band was "The North Shore", which we later found out there was an Orchestral group with that name. So we turned to a name generator. The name "The Omega Structure" popped up, and we changed it to "Alpha". There's no in-depth meaning behind the name.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Every person in the band has been listening to heavy "core" music since our teenage years. Guitarist Ryan Christian, and drummer Colton Dishner actually were in a band together in highschool. It is very rhythmically driven, emotional, and intricate. And that is what we like. The live shows in this genre are like no other.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We are all very close friends that have known each other since Middle school. (Approx. 13 years of age) As stated before, Ryan and Colton were in a band together in highschool. Ryan and Nathn went to highschool together and were also very close. With Colin and Terrence being the oldest two members, the rest of the band knew them, But all came together as friends in 2015 for the band.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Colton: Trophy Eyes

Terrence: Tool, Breakdown of Sanity, Carnifex

Colin: Iron Maiden, Slipknot

Nathan: Glass Cloud

Ryan: Erra, Breakdown of Sanity

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We don't really draw inspiration from specific people or artists. We do hear certain bands that have a sound we like, and maybe some of our music sounds similar. But we don't really strive to sound like any band. All of us in the band are inspired by events that happen in our lives. We all are normal people with day jobs, families, kids, etc. And not every event in life is positive. We are inspired by all the things in life the may or may not go our way. These emotions lead us to the outlet of music. Not only that, but we are also inspired by our own members. We always push each other above and beyond. Nathan, Ryan, and Terrence all drawn inspiration from the pain they endure in their day-to-day lives.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was Metal in the Mountains 6 in Dunsmuir, California. It was hands down one of the best festivals we have ever attended.

7. Where would you like to act?

All of us in the band want to play and travel in Europe. Germany, France, Normay, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, etc. A few of us want to also play in Japan.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We have never really put too much thought into featuring another artist with our music. Some names that we have talked about in the past are Adam Warren from Oceano (vocal feature) and Dan Watson from Enterprise Earth (vocal feature). Other than that we haven't thought about any instrumental features.

9. Whom not?

We like to keep it within our genre. Metalcore/deathcore/hardcore/djent Anything outside of those lines doesn't help with genre consistency. However we are not quick to judge, if other artists have an key aspect that we are looking for, it will be considered.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Being on stage is a crazy feeling. Especially your first time. We all hit the stage for the first time in 2017. At that point, the only person who had experience on stage was Colton and Nathan. Ryan had only really played one show with his highschool band before that. When you're on stage adrenaline takes over, and 30 minutes can feel like 3 minutes. Before you know it, your set is over and you are packing up.

The best advice we can give, is to believe in your music and yourself. Engage with the crowd and just have fun. Because like stated before, it will be over before you know it. Our bassist Colin would like to add:

"yes I have, and my way to get over stage fright is to tell yourself 'You are a bada**, just be you and don't worry about what people think.'"

Colton would like to add: "I always do. I always tear myself up before shows thinking I’ll mess up.. but once I see the boys on stage and we get through that first song it’s the best feeling ever.

Tips.. just run into it. It’s super fun."

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Ryan: Breakdown of Sanity, Erra, Vildhjarta

Colton: Contortionist, veil of maya and northlane. Probably some punkish bands in there as well.

Colin: Iron Maiden, Slipknot

Terrence: Tool, Breakdown of Sanity, Various deathcore artists

Nanthan: Glass Cloud, Vildhjarta, Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Thankfully we haven't gotten any super CRAZY requests. We've been asked for everything from free merchandise, to signing posters, to just having a drink with the band.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We have a very diverse fan base and that is something that we really appreciate. We try our best to go above and beyond for our fans, when it comes to releasing content, sneak peeks, sales on merchandise, etc. Because we love our fans.

14. What do you think of our site?

We think the site is professional, clean and provides the information needed to learn about all the awesome bands on the roster, as well as the team running Music-records. The transparency is great, even though we are thousands of miles away, we feel like we really know the music-records team.

15. Something add?

We just want to thank Music-Records France for the opportunity to be part of their team, and all the hard work they do share music for the world to see. We are very excited to be part of it and look forward to the release of our full-length album.
