Interviews: Deadspawn

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Black Metal/Death Metal band Deadspawn from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Deadspawn is a book within the Necroscope series by Brian Lumley. When the band first started a lot of the lyrical content was heavily influenced by his tales of fantasy and horror. It seemed fitting and an ode to his influence by naming the band after the book.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Death metal has always been in our veins from the inception of the band. However, we were always so captivated by melodic riffs that came out of the European black metal scene as well. The styles seemed to blend naturally during our early days of writing and have continued to develop into a darker sound ever since.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Deadspawn has been through a handful of members at this point but we all have known each other throughout the years hear in the Arizona metal community. We all followed each other's bands and hung out at parties before deciding to work together.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

It's a unanimous answer for each one of us that none of us can answer those questions. We all love way too many bands and genres to try and answer that honestly. We all have our go toos and bands that are on constant rotation but to try and narrow that down to one would be impossible.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Late-night jam sessions are usually our fuel to start compiling riffs. When we're all together and the mood is relaxed it opens up our minds an we are able to just start cranking out and forming things. We definitely inspire each other to work thats for sure. We have a lot of late night conversations regarding the absolutely horrendousness of our species which normally just evolve into lyrical content. Those late nights also usually involve a lot of sharing of music which then develops riffs.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was In Mesa Arizona being the only local act on the Hypocrisy & Fleshgod Apocalypse 2019 tour.

7. Where would you like to act?

Anywhere that people want to see us is where we want to play. Performing is such an enjoyable experience for us and to have people enjoying what we love to do alongside us is rewarding.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We have respect for so many hard-working bands. We're always honored to share the stage with any of our peers as long as we're providing a night of chaos to those who listen.

9. Whom not?

Lago

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I don't think any of us have ever really suffered from that. We've all been performing since our teenage years so I think we got that out early.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

I would like to say Deadspawn as a whole has been majorly influenced by bands like Hate, Naglfar, Belphegor, Dark Funeral. This kind of goes along the line of the favorite band questions and I know each member could go on endlessly talking about musicians & bands that influenced them personally.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Autographs. It seems so strange and unreal.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We couldn't be more appreciative. They really make all the hours we poor into our art worth it.

14. What do you think of our site?

At first glance, the site seems very stream lined for content. You have your recent/new stories right up front and your genre options nearby. Looks amazing and I can already tell I'm going to enjoy following your guys' work.
