Interviews: Realidades

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Hardcore/Hardcore band Realidades from Guatemala. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Josy (lead voice) presented the idea of the project, he already had a name, and with time it started to make sense for us, because we try to make sound and music to tell stories about stuff that, although we all perceive differently, we all have to face at a certain point in life.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

It was what most influenced us at that time, even today many of us still listen to the 00’s hardcore, we believe it is the perfect mix between the sincerity and energy of hardcore with the melodies and harmony to deal with other personal topics in the lyrics.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Pablo and myself (Josy) have known each other for more than 16 years, then we met Rodrigo but it was until 2013 when we began to play together after a christmas dinner when the 3 of us had so much fun talking about bands that we asked Rodrigo to join, then Jacobo and Jhona came later but we’ve already seen them around in the local shows since they played in other bands.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Pablo: AFI, Alkaline Trio, blink-182

Jhona: Touché Amoré, Joliette, No Somos Marineros

Josy: Alexisonfire, bad religion, have heart, nach

Jacobo: Turnover, Beach Fossils, Roosevelt, Title Fight

Rodrigo: Shook Ones, Alexisonfire, Interpol, Mac Miller

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Personal experiences from people within the band or around us, ideas in books, movies or even other songs.

6. Where was your last gig?

The last concert we gave was at a place called Yepocapa, Chimaltenango, a small town near the volcano called “Acatenango”, and it was very fun, some boys already knew the new songs even before we released the album.

7. Where would you like to act?

We would like to take our music wherever possible, the first goal is to visit the rest of Latin America.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

A collaboration with a rapper would be great, there are some guys in Guatemala with really nice flow

9. Whom not?

We are really open to experimenting as long as we like the final result.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

The only thing that helps us is to try to breathe and remember that playing is something we do on a weekly basis, although it's called rehearsal, we try to realize it’s the same and once you do that, the serenity comes back and you are ready to have fun and share it with the audience.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

We could mention the hardcore bands of the 2000s, as we mentioned before, that combination of energy but with melodies and songs a little more introspective was what captured us in a total way.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

More than fans, we have friends who enjoy what we do and for this we are very grateful. The strangest thing, could be the time we played in some kind of restaurant, it had a stage but the place was open to everybody, think of it as an open mic event hahahaha and although many people left the place, at the end a couple of parents came with their children to congratulate us and take a picture with us, I guess it was a nice change of pace for them.

13. What do you think of your fans?

As we mentioned before, more than fans we consider them friends and they are the best. Thanks to music we have met incredible people inside and outside our country. Their loyalty and support is what motivates us to want to continue growing and doing better things.

14. What do you think of our site?

It's great to be part of your site now as a band, a couple of years back we visited it to find more music. We respect your efforts and admire the professional space you have created over time.

15. Something add?

Only to thank Breathing The Core for space and the opportunity to share our music, also to thank our families and friends who have believed in us. We remind you that our new album is now available on all digital platforms and if you want to follow the band we are on all social networks as: @realidadeshc. Thank you very much, a big hug from Guatemala.
