Interviews: 7 Stone Riot

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Hard Rock band 7 Stone Riot from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We really liked the way 7SR looked next to each other so from there we just threw some words in that we liked. There’s really no significant meaning to our name we just thought it rolled of the tongue real well.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

To all of us in the band it’s the style of music that helps us express ourselves best. We all have a passion for heavy guitars that groove, but we also love catchy vocal melodies that are somewhat mainstream sounding. Plus there’s nothing better than a whole room of people rocking out to rock music.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Three of the members of the band are brothers, Whit (lead singer) Tyler (bass) and Todd Millsap (rhythm guitar). Whit and Reid (lead guitar) played baseball together in high school so us 4 have known each other for a very long time. Skylar (drummer) is the new guy but he fits right in with us like we’ve known him for awhile.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Whit’s (lead singer) favorite bands are Tool, Shinedown, and Alice In Chains. Tyler (bass) favorite bands are Tesseract, Karnivool, and Dead Letter Circus, Skylar (drums) are The Pretty Reckless, Pantera, and Havok, Todd (Guitar) are Periphery and Sevendust, and Reid (lead guitar) is Daughters of Mara and... Willie Nelson

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Most of our inspirations for songs come from what’s going on in our lives. We feel like if you write about real things it will connect with people more and to us that’s what music is all about connecting with people. Music has a cool way of taking what I’m feeling and making someone else feel the same way even though it’s a totally different situation.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last show was in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and it was probably the most rock n roll show we’ve ever been apart of. The sound guy quit twice there were broken microphones and the cops came but overall everyone that played that night killed it in front of a packed house.

7. Where would you like to act?

We would like to one day be playing in stadiums all across the globe. I feel like the main goal every band has is to sell out your hometown arena and we hope to one day do that.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We’re not really picky on who we would want to play with but it would be really awesome to play with Tool. They are legends coming off of a 13 year hiatus and still killing it and doing new and fresh things to keep people buying actual CDs.

9. Whom not?

Honestly, there isn’t a band we wouldn’t play with. Music is all about opinions so if everyone that came to the show is enjoying it then that’s all that really matters.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

None of us have never really suffered from stage fright. There’s moments where you get nervous but once you start playing it all goes away. The best way to get the nerves out of you is to throw a few shots of whiskey back and rock and roll.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

We have a ton of bands that inspire us that’s why I think our music sounds the way it does. The different style of bands we all listen to converge into the 7 Stone Riot sound. We don’t really have any rules when it comes to our song writing so when you mix Alice In Chains, Tesseract, Pantera, Sevendust, and Willie Nelson into one you come out with our style

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

One of the weirdest things we’ve been asked that we all thought was pretty awesome was someone wanted us to sign a pop tart. Hopefully they didn’t eat it afterwards.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love all of our fans. They are the ones they keep us doing what we love doing. It’s always nice hearing from fans how our music has helped them through something, inspired them, or how much they enjoy listening to us. Which is something that also inspires us when it comes to our writing.

14. What do you think of our site?

The site is super cool. It’s such a good way for us to be able to tell people about us who don’t know much about us. It also helps us get our message across with what our songs actually mean from our point of view.

15. Something add?

We will be coming out with a new EP sometime in 2020 so be on the look out for that. It’s different than anything we’ve released and we’re super excited for everyone to hear it. While everyone waits for it to come out be sure to buy our stream our EP ‘Scratching the Surface’ on any music platform.
