Interviews: Abysmatic

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Industrial/Electronic/Punk band Abysmatic from Bulgaria. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Abysmatic is a combination of the words “abysmal” and “automatic” and sort of refers to the Fibonacci sequence spiral, which in turn could be seen as a symbol for the passage of time and the inevitability of death. It also obviously refers to the depths of hell and has some Satanic overtones.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We’re playing a pretty unique mixture of industrial metal and electropunk, which could sort of be described as The Prodigy meets Static-X. Growing up during the nu-metal era that sound obviously shaped a lot of our musical preferences, and when UK dubstep and drum and bass blew up around 2008 it seemed like a natural progression of the idea of combining pop and dance music with a really heavy sound, so we tried to come up with our version of that.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We were all playing in another band before – Bulgarian nu-metal pioneers Fyeld.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Dennis Nikov (singer, songwriter, producer): Nine Inch Nails, The Prodigy, Deftones, Limp Bizkit

Hristo Simeonov (guitarist): Metallica, Slipknot, Killswitch Engage, A Day To Remember

Dobromir Vulkov (drummer): The Prodigy, Nile, Celldweller, Blue Stahli, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Cradle Of Filth

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Music is by far the most visceral art form as it’s capable of provoking an emotional reaction from a person almost instantly. Writing a song that manifests a very specific feeling is fascinating as it’s almost like creating a little world and that’s what inspires us.

6. Where was your last gig?

Club Terminal 1 in Sofia, Bulgaria, supporting Leeroy Thornhill (ex-The Prodigy).

7. Where would you like to perform?

Big summer festivals like Download, EXIT, Rock Am Ring, Electric Castle, etc.

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

The Prodigy, Bring Me The Horizon, Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, Korn, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit etc.

9. Whom not?

Folk and indie bands.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Stage fright is only natural for every performer as it’s part of the excitement. Simply make sure you’re well prepared and in good shape and that’ll give you the confidence to just enjoy yourself.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Nine Inch Nails, The Prodigy, Limp Bizkit, Korn, Marilyn Manson.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

If they can buy the clothes we’re currently wearing.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They’re the most integral part of the equation and we love them all.

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s vital for bands and artists to have outlets to reach people like this, keep up the great work!

15. Something to add?

Rock on!
