Interviews: Alphastate

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the  Metal band Alphastate from Greece. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Manos Xanthakis: While writing lyrics for the 1st album I experienced a sense of calmness a total contradiction to the nature and manner of “Out of the Black:” lyrical concept. The name alpha state popped was selected in order to describe that clarity and tranquility. Pete then was responsible for tweaking to Alphastate.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Pete Breaker: One of the best reason to play Metal is the energy and passion you can put in your music. I love the loud very aggressive guitars and the tight rhythm section (drums/bass) in our band.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Pete Breaker: I knew Manos Xanthakis years ago before we form Alphastate. He was singing in a band called Celestial Ode.He is also a very good guitar player as well.

Manos Xanthakis: We’ve met each other about a decade ago in the studio were my band at the time Celestial Ode used for rehearsing. Owner of that studio was teaching guitar and myself, members of Celestial and Pete were all his students. I remember Pete kind of vaguely since we only me 2-3 times but thankfully his memory is much stronger than mine otherwise none of this would have ever taken place!

4. Each band member favorite band?

Pete Breaker: Metallica, Testament, Nevermore, Ozzy Osbourne, Pantera, Gus G., Black Label Society, Death

Manos Xanthakis: Oh man that’s a big list. So brace yourself. Accept, UDO, Helloween, Gamma Ray, Manowar, Ayreon, Beyond Twillight, Slayer, Exodus, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Crimson Glory, Nevermore, Pantera, Iced Earth (early albums), Bruce Dickinson (solo albums), Death and lots of opera just to mention a few.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Pete Breaker: I am responsible for the music in Alphastate. All I can say is when I have a riff in my head I write it down in my PC or a recorder anywhere so I can work it better. When I am finished a full song I send it to Manos so he can work with lyrics and all the lines. Manos Xanthakis As Pete he is responsible for the music and then I try my best to dress the songs with appropriate lyrical themes and melodies. Inspiration usually comes from various situations that both of us have experienced or stuff that makes angry and we express our thoughts and opinions that way. Who needs fantasy-inspired lyrics when everyday life can surpass even the wildest imagination.

6. Where was your last gig?

Pete Breaker: Our last gig was in Athens at Bums Club. We played at a festival called Rain Fest.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Pete Breaker: We don't have any of these problems in this band. We love to play live in front of people. There is no trick for this kind of fear from my perspective. You get on the stage and you rock as hard as you can.
