Interviews: Becoming The Lion

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Post-Metal band Becoming The Lion from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The band name originally came from a movie quote “Rise and rise until lambs become lions” from the Robin Hood remake a while back. The name was, at that point, Lambs Become Lions. After a few years I realized how many bands use that name or some variant of those words, especially a more established Canadian band of the same name. It was then I started looking at some alternatives and came up with Becoming the Lion.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I’ve always been a fan of hardcore and metalcore bands but after being turned on to the post-rock/post-metal genres, I fell in love with the flexibility in what the music could be with bands like Russian Circles and Cloudkicker. We don’t necessarily stick to one genre with our music but the song structures are typically more along with the “post” genre lines.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

No. The Band formed as a solo project after everyone in previous bands started leaving for school. I wanted to keep being active with music in one form or another. Dan and I actually went to the same school but were not in the same circles so we never we introduced until our mutual guitar teacher told us to start jammin out together. Denis I met on Craigslist…..

4. Each band member favorite band?

I always have a hard time picking a favorite but my top three would be Cloudkicker, Thrice, and Oceansize. I can’t speak for everyone else I know Dan and Dennis typically like a more heavier side of things. I’m sure BTBAM is on their lists for sure.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Usually either just being in the Man Cave or with the guys screwing around is what leads to a good writing inspiration. All it takes is one good riff to spend hours lost expanding on it, every if it doesn’t actually go any where.

6. Where was your last gig?

Burbon on Divison in Chicago.

7. Where would you like to act?

Summerfest in Milwaukee would be awesome to share stage time at. It's a staple in the area and usually a place I make it out to every year.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

If Hail Archer would reunite (local Milwaukee band) that would be sick as hell!

9. Whom not?

Post Malone

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I still do sometimes. I don’t have any tips out side of don’t focus on the crowds at first and (if your a singer) do a lot of karaoke, I feel more nervous doing the hits than I do yelling my own music.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Thrice and Oceansize would be my top ones for the varied themes and sounds and genres within their discographies. I like having a bunch of different options to listen to of a band, not just one sound repeated for 20 years. This is what I have tried to accomplish so far with our EPs. You will not hear the same some twice!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I was asked to send something with my signature on it to a fan. Thinking back though, this might have been a scam….

13. What do you think of your fans?

We are still trying to grow our fan base but we are super grateful for everyone who has jumped on our wagon. But like anyone else, we are all just people finding a little beauty in this world.

14. What do you think of our site?

This is definitely a solid place to find so much great new music!

15. Something add?

We will be releasing our next EP “Unearthly Creature” at some point this year so keep an eye out!
