Interviews: Breathing Theory

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Hard Rock band Breathing Theory from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

So the band name is actually kind of a spin-off from a name that we had before. The idea was very much to live each day as if it could be your last but the band named gave off this heavier impression. That's not what we were going for. So one day I was thinking how could we say what we wanted to say but differently and I really like the word breathing. So I just added theory to it, the guys liked it, it was catchy. So we kept it. Essentially with every breath you take, you should live to the fullest and that's kind of like the motto behind it now.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I honestly started off kind of being into backstreet Boys and NSYNC because for me as a kid it was just about singing and writing music and writing songs I didn't really think that far into being a band yet. Then at 10 years old I remember being at a friend's house and watching TRL and Papa Roach last resort came on and I was hooked the second I heard those drums and that guitar I was like yep hard rock is where it's at. Just is calling my name so from then on I knew I'm going to eventually start a rock band in about 5 years later I did.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

So fun fact, nobody besides myself was originally a part of the foundation of the band. This began as a three piece with myself playing guitar with a couple buddies from high School, playing drums and bass. That's really how it started. Those guys were with me until 2013, as well as another friend from highschool that took over on second guitar when I transitioned from playing live and Kegan stepped in towards the end of their departing time. If we rewind the tape some though, Rob Mahoney had stepped in briefly in the old line up but then left again. Sadly all of those members have moved on to other things but I still have Kegan, Rob came back along with the Collin and our second prior bass player in 2014. Joey's been with us almost two years now. I thought forever that I had to be in a band with my buddies from high school to really make it worth what I wanted out of it but I came to realize that I was going to build new friendships and become a new family with the guys that are with me now and I honestly wouldn't trade who we are and what we become.

4. Each band member favourite band?

I personally don't think I have a favorite band but I would say I'm very taken by the new Bring Me The Horizon Asking Alexandria stuff for sure. Kegan has always loved Linkin Park. Rob's always had his favorites in the 80s metal genre. Collin when he first joined couldn't shut up about avenged sevenfold I'm pretty sure Joey's favorite band is like Primus.

5. Whom would you like to feature with?

I think we honestly all be happy to play with any of the bands that were influenced by.

6. Whom not?

There's almost no bands that we wouldn't want to play with as long as they're cool guys or girls and the music is enjoyable hands down why not...

7. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

For all of us I believe there is that moment where you have to either walk through the door or shut it I don't think particularly any of us get stage-fright anymore but maybe just a little bit concerned that something might happen like strings break microphone dies stuff like that. Our advice just be on top of it all. Put in the time to rehearse double check your guitar strings double check your mic batteries then walk out on stage Like a Rockstar and just know that people are there to see you in your element there's really no reason to be afraid if you truly believe in yourself.

8. What bands have inspired you the most?

Sometimes Collin will share stories, or I might come across a story that really kind of speaks volumes. One time I heard about how Aerosmith basically got all the way to the top got signed was out touring doing their thing then they got dropped from their label and had to basically start all over again and sometimes it's stories like that that make you stop and realize being in a band is not easy but if the determination is there the things that you want to accomplish will come. I feel like if you take notice and pay attention to the bands that are just crushing it. I was never a big Bring Me The Horizon fan in the beginning but just seeing how they have completely reinvented themselves and are almost changing the game as far as being a rock band that definitely says a lot and you can't take anything away from them for that.

9. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I think so far for us it's just randomly getting asked to hang out, like at people's houses or the maybe sign their body somewhere awkwardly. Haha

10. What do you think of your fans?

We very much think of our fans like a huge collective family there's nobody that we say no to there's nobody we want take a picture with or talk to when you come to our shows we want you to feel young and old like you're a member of our family.
