Interviews: Indigo Storm

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock band Indigo Storm from the USA. Check out the interview.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

"Indigo Storm" just seemed to be a good fit. We are like three Indigo minds - curious, creative, and sometimes perceived by friends and family as a little strange.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Progressive Rock fits us well. We have a fascination with the rhythmic complexity and intricacy found in progressive music.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Having played with a variety of other bands in the local music scene, we were familiar with each other and developed a mutual respect for each other’s musicianship. We hung out together, had a few informal jam sessions, recognized our musical chemistry, and Indigo Storm was born.

4. Each band member favorite band?

David – Blue October

Ryan – Rush

CJ - Deftones

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We write as a collective, each member creating their part. Can’t really say specifically what inspires us to write, but we are influenced by individual interests and of course life experiences.

6. Where was your last gig?

We just played a hometown show at Al’s Bar in Lexington, KY.

7. Where would you like to perform?

We would love to play to a crowded arena – anywhere.

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

David De Wolfe (bassist/vocalist): My dream line up would definitely have Nothing More in it; I would love to play a gig with them again. Also Karnivool as they’ve greatly influenced what I consider to be good progressive music. Top it all off with Primus, simply because they’d put on such a crazy show it would oddly fit with the progressive rock and metal scene. CJ Jones (guitarist/vocalist): What David said plus Deftones and Gojira. Ryan Slayton (drummer: Rush, Tool, Alice in Chains.

9. Whom not?

Can’t say – really. Bands that don’t match up. We are pretty much down to play with anyone.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Happy to say we have not had stage fright. Probably because we have all been on stage in some role since we were kids. I mean – Ryan started playing bars when he was 12.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

CJ Jones (guitarist/vocalist): My musical influences include Led Zeppelin, Deftones, Tool, and Alice In Chains. Here's a new feature from Breathing The Core: Indigo Storm

Ryan Slayton (drummer): I do have lots of influences and/or artist I love to listen to such as Tool, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Alice in Chains, and Porcupine Tree - and a list of drummers longer than your arm.

David DeWolfe (bassist/vocalist): It's honestly hard to boil down who my band inspirations are, as there are so many. Musicians would be Cliff Burton, Jaco Pastorius, and everyone I've had a musical relationship with whether it is on stage or simply listening to them. I love all music of all kinds.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

David – “I was asked for my opinion, by a fan, if they should shave their pits.”

CJ – “I was asked to autograph a forehead.”

Ryan – “I was asked to start a church.”

13. What do you think of your fans?

We have great respect and appreciation for our fans. We really enjoy creating music together and we want our fans to feel that – to become part of what we are giving. We put a lot of thought into what we write and want them to feel the honesty and - hopefully - make an emotional connection that will bring them back wanting more.

14. What do you think of our site?

Breathing The Core is an excellent social platform that is genuinely interested in promoting artists that might otherwise never be heard. The features, interviews, all of it – very professionally done. We are honoured to be considered.

15. Something to add?

Working with Grammy Award winning Producer/Songwriter Skidd Mills of Skiddco Music in Nashville, we just released the first single from our upcoming EP - "Metric". We are very excited about our partnership with Skiddco Music and can’t wait for everyone to hear the new material. We plan to play shows, hopefully build our fan base, and keep writing music. We are musical brothers and indigo minds so the future looks promising.
