Interviews: NeverWake

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Hard Rock/Metal band NeverWake from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We were making music. At the time we had gone through a couple band name changes because we were still evolving. Our influences kept changing, our writing process was changing. We were just growing like normal. When we sat back and started to notice a pattern with some of our songs we really noticed a lot of them had this dark eerie sound. It would move from one eerie part to another. Kind of like a nightmare that never ends. That's how we settled on NeverWake.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

As kind of mentioned above this really is just where we ended up. We didn't really choose to be here. Our influences built who we are and when we all put it together this is where the cards fell.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We are literally the breakfast club of bands. I was the jock in my high school. I played football, I was the quarterback, our bassist, George Scott, was kind of a loner gothic kid, and our drummer Marcus Giannamore was a full fledged band geek. The three of us went to high school together but never did anything together until college when we really got to know each other. Justin didn't join the band until later but we like to joke around and say if we had a mechanic class at high school, he would have been that kid.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Johnny D - Trivium

George Scott - Slipknot

Marcus Giannamore - Periphery

Justin Sanford - Zakk Wylde

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We become inspired from everywhere. One of our most popular songs "Defiance" was written after watching 30 seconds of the intro of "The Corpse Bride". Our song "Hypocrisy" was written after witnessing an online argument. "Cut You Down" was written after playing Call of Duty Zombies. Inspirations comes from everywhere. What drives me to make music is my battle with anxiety and depression. It helps me get my thoughts out and helps me focus on something positive.

6. Where was your last gig?

We've been working on finishing our next EP "Misguided", which was produced by Disturbed's Bassist and good friend of our, John Moyer. So we haven't played since our annual SleepWalker ball in Pittsburgh in October. It's a benefit we run at the Hard Rock Cafe in Pittsburgh every year that donates all proceeds to UPMC Children's Hospital.

7. Where would you like to act?

We'd love to play at a couple "Loudest Month" Festivals. We played Carolina Rebellion in 2015 and had a blast.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Personally, I'd love to share the stage with Trivium. We've gotten to share the stage with All That Remains, Falling In Reverse, Times of Grace and a TON of other bands. Trivium has always been on my bucket list and I'd love to make that happen.

9. Whom not?

Kind of a tough question. I'd have to say any band with a hardcore cult following. It's hard to break the ice with new fans, but when they're the "cult following" type of fan, that ice is like 10 feet thick.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Yes. Even though I said I was the jock in my high school I've literally ALWAYS been the shy kid. I don't like confrontation, I have terrible anxiety. What helps me is to focus on my music and what I'm doing. I also get through by thinking about my father who's been a musician for 30+ years. He's such an inspiration to me and it helps to follow in his footsteps.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

As mentioned above, my father has an immense influence on me. Growing up getting into the heavy music I'd have to say Avenged Sevenfold played a big part of shaping the kind of artist I wanted to be.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

This one comes from Justin (NW's other guitarist) - "I once had a young fan ask me to carve my autograph into his arm since I didn’t have a sharpie!"

13. What do you think of your fans?

We absolutely love our fans. We love when they talk to us about our music and how it's affected them. When I hear music that inspires me, the first thing that comes to my mind is "I wish I could create something that moves someone the way this moves me" When I get the chance to talk to someone about that it's really gratifying.

14. What do you think of our site?

Funny you say that. Being that I design website and run a marketing / branding agency on the side I think it's great! You've got a lot of great info here and it's all laid out perfect. Keep it going!!
