Interviews: Pharmacose

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the  Alternative Rock band Pharmacose from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We talk a lot about mental health, medications, side effects, etc. I combined the words “pharmaceutical” and “comatose” and got Pharmacose!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I’ve always liked alternative and alternative rock. I’m kind of still stuck in the 90s to a degree because I listen to a lot of rock from that era. That was what I learned to play the guitar to, so I just kind of stuck with it. But, I love synthesizers, so I definitively wanted to add that sound in too!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Lu and Albert have known each other for years. I met Lu through a friend and he started producing me at his studio. I later found Kevin on Craigslist, and Pharmacose was born!

4. Each band member favorite band?

Kevin – Periphery

Albert – King Crimson

Wes – The Mars Volta

Lu - Elbow

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I have written a lot about my struggles with bipolar disorder. But it’s not just the coping with it. I have written a lot about medication and their side effects. But I also like weird conspiracy theories, so that may be something that we talk about in the future.

6. Where was your last gig?

We played a benefit for a local musician in St. Augustine. He died several years back, and the benefit was for his family. We had a lot of fun doing it!

7. Where would you like to act?

I lived in Chicago for 7 years before moving to Jacksonville for work. I’d love to play a gig up there sometime at a place like the Vic. That would be amazing!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

If I could pick one person to do a song with, it would be Jerry Cantrell. He’s a legend. That guy can do it all. I think you can do something special when you have two separate voices in a song, and he has been doing it for years and years.

9. Whom not?

I don’t think I would want to do anything with a full blown pop act. That’s just not our vibe.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I still struggle with this sometimes. My only advice is just to breathe. And don’t drink too much caffeine before going on stage.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

The bands that inspire me the most are the bands that I still listen to. Tool, NIN, Queens of the Stone Age, Failure, The Mars Volta, A Perfect Circle, Faith No More, and Placebo are some off the top of my head.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

There was a guy on social media that wanted us to come play a show in Alaska. Maybe someday! That’s not particularly weird, though. Everyone has been pretty chill.

13. What do you think of your fans?

I love our fans! They are what keeps me wanting to create. I love interacting with them on social media, answering questions and what not. Also, people like to send me links to their own music. A lot of it is really good!

14. What do you think of our site?

Love the site. It’s very comprehensive! I really like how everything is broken down by genre and subgenre. I’m not too familiar with the artists in some of the subgenres. It’s really opened my eyes to a lot of new artists!

15. Something add?

Our next single, “The Clearing,” will be available for streaming and digital purchase 2/28/2020. If you like what you hear, please check us out. We also have a video coming out to accompany the video. We’re thinking mid-March for that release. In April, we have an EP coming out, and we have a second EP planned for release later this year. So we have a lot in the pipeline. Thanks so much!
