Interviews: Secret Social Club

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Rock band Secret Social Club from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

I don’t think anyone actually believes me when I tell them it took us 6 months to decide on a name. It got to a point where it was the only thing holding us back from playing shows. Originally, I wanted to call it Supervillain Social Club, because the thought of a bunch of supervillains hanging out together was hilarious to me. We just felt like it was a little too long. I remember writing a bunch of words on a white board and having the guys circle their favorites, “Secret” being one of them- We definitely over thought it for too long, but we love our name.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Personally, I like being in the Alternative genre because it allows us to push the boundaries in each of our favorite genres. It allows us to explore a bunch of “sub genres” while keeping that big Alternative sound that Matt Good (Producer) helped us create. It makes our live show so much more fun because our songs are very dynamic.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Andy and I had known each other briefly from a previous project, but Steve and Luc joined after we recorded. Steve was a friend of our original drummer, LP (Yellowcard) and joined just before our first show. The first time we met Luc was about a week before our music video. He sent in an audition tape when we announced we needed a new drummer. Out of about 30 submissions I saw him and he was the only one I forwarded to the other guys. Although, if you ask Luc, he swears he sent his reel to some Brit Pop band or something and that we got it by mistake..Either way, it worked out. Haha.

4. Each band member favourite band?

In my opinion, the best thing about this band is that we all constantly share new music with each other. We just love good songs. If we had a band playlist it’d have everything from The Misfits and Metallica, to Blink 182 and Elton John. It makes the writing process insanely fun.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

My favorite thing in the world is to just sit and have deep conversations with the people around me. My wife, family and friends all inspire me so much. We are always sharing personal experiences, never afraid to show humility and always encourage taking chances at something great. Writing is just my own form of therapy. The fact that everyone close to me knows me so well makes it easier for me to write about some of the more personal things I struggle with.

6. Where was your last gig?

The other night we played our release party and debuted the video for a lot of our close friends and family, as well as some industry friends. It was actually our first show with Luc and the band’s first show in about 6 months. We were all very nervous, but it was great.

7. Where would you like to act?

Everywhere - But, I’m really excited to start playing some of these big European and UK festivals like Rock am Ring, Reading and Leeds, and Download.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Kendrick Lamar. I’ve always loved working with hip hop artists.

9. Whom not?

haha, I’m not sure?

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I can’t speak for the other guys, but I sure do. It’s weird because it hits me randomly. I just try to remind myself to breathe and have fun. The nerves are all apart of the high for me. I love it, nerves and all!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

There are so many. I’ve been so lucky to have 2 parents that had amazing taste in music. From MoTown to Metal. They were very patient and supportive with me going through all of my phases of music, including my days as a less than mediocre Metalcore Drummer in high school! haha.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Haha. Well, nothing too weird yet, but I look forward to circling back on this in a couple years, because I’m sure there will he some good ones.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We are so lucky to have the supporters we have at such an early phase. With Steve and our original drummer being from Jacksonville, Florida, it makes it easy to grow on both the East and West coast. The amount of support we had received is insane. Not only from fans of our music, but by other bands and musicians as well.

14. What do you think of our site?

We think it’s badass and stoked to be on it!

15. Something add?

Thanks!
