Interviews: The Unsung

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the  Metalcore band The Unsung from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The idea of a band name did not come easily. During its conception, the band struggled to come up with a name for weeks. In the midsts of frustration, we approached the idea of coming up with a name that was about being nameless. The Unsung means being uncelebrated. Our names and our faces do not matter, hence our logo being a masked figure. All we truly care about is our music and our message being heard.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Having an inner urge to let out explosive energy, the metal/metalcore genre has given us the opportunity to let out that energy in a positive way. But ultimately, it has been a staple genre in all of our lives. Metalcore encompasses a variety of different styles with an aggressive edge. It allows us to have free range in how we write songs by mixing beauty with absolute chaos.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Thomas and Devin were the only two who knew each other before the formation of the band. They met in junior high while both were on the schools drum line.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Devin and Garrett are practically the same person and both love Periphery. Thomas is a huge Between The Buried and Me and Tyler is torn between Avenged Sevenfold and Parkway Drive. (Making decisions is clearly not Tyler’s strength).

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

It’s hard to say who or what inspires us to write songs. Our love for playing music and drive to become successful with it has us constantly practicing and honing our craft, but the songs we write come from a deeper place that can’t necessarily be described. Our songs our written based on the things that are happening or who is in our lives at that particular moment. It is constantly changing and evolving.

6. Where was your last gig?

The last show we played was at Brick By Brick in San Diego.

7. Where would you like to perform?

Arenas for tens of thousands of people every night all around the world and the big festivals like Rock On The Range, Rock Am Ring, Wacken, and Hellfest.

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

The artists we would like to perform with are countless. To name a few are Avenged Sevenfold, Periphery, Killswitch Engage, Beartooth, Bring Me The Horizon, Asking Alexandria, and Parkway Drive.

9. Whom not?

We don’t discriminate. We welcome any band that would share the stage with us.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Picturing the audience in their underwear not recommended. Be yourself, have fun, and rock out as hard as you can. What others think is less important than how your music makes you feel. Enjoy it!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Bands like Periphery, Polyphia, and Between the Buried And Me have inspired the instrumentation and almost progressive style we have. But bands like Parkway Drive, Bring Me The Horizon, and a plethora of 80’s era hair metal bands give inspiration for our more fun, energetic sound accompanied by catchy vocal melodies.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Our standard of weird is very high, so we haven’t been asked for anything that has made us cringe yet. But some of our favorite things so far have been being asked to sign autographs on body parts and if a fan could propose to his girlfriend during one of our shows.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We have a very loyal fan base that we absolutely love. Our fans that come from far distances to see us play and even get our lyrics and logo tattooed on them. We could not be more blessed to consider them apart of The Unsung family and hope it continues to grow.

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s the best site ever!!! Everyone should be on it right now while listening to The Unsung!!

15. Something to add?

Thank you all from The Unsung. We hope to meet you all one day soon. See you in the pit.
