Interviews: Karabas Barabas

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Rock band Karabas Barabas from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Growing up we were heavily influenced by Russian Cartoons. In America Pinocchio the puppet master that captures and enslaves Pinocchio is called Stromboli, but in the Russian version he is Karabas Barabas.

Additionally, we’ve always been fascinated by the idea of the puppet master pulling the strings.. It is a narrative that has from our perspective been a constant in our realm for the thirty something years we’ve spent on the planet.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We don’t really play any genre unless nonsense is a new genre.. we write a bunch of nonsense, and if it makes us or others feel good then we did something that was worth doing. We hope to expand our genre even further with the fourth album which we’ve just began writing.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We were created in a vortex of dark matter so we are actually three extension of one consiusness.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

A lot of our inspiration comes from our travle . We mostly inspire each other through hours of sitting in the car on tour saying the stupidest shit...

6. Where was your last gig?

We played with Beooklyn rock Gods the mother fuckin Def. GRLS @ our wicked lady in Bushwick to celebrate our cassette & digital release. Earlier in the month with Fleshlight Suicide on the roof which included and amazing no ring death match between MV Young and Casanova Valentine, two of the best nights we’ve ever had.

7. Where would you like to act?

In a pizza hut commercial.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Ween, Primus, Shellac, Rage, System, Nirvana.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Left over chipotle

15. Something add?

We are pleased to have finished “Degenerate National Anthem” our second album with Steve Albini and our third that we created at his studio “Electrical Audio”. We encourage all the doomed and degenerates out there to give our tunes a spin, preferably really loud or with good headphones and smile for a while, because although the bastards may have won, they can’t stop us from thinking.. at least not yet.
