Interviews: Subxero

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore/Nu-Metal band Subxero from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Subxero is meant to represent the underdogs in life. The outcasts, the introverts, the people that feel they don’t have a place in this life and society. That’s where the 0%er stems from. We’re all in this life together whether we like it or not. It’s up to us, as decent people, to help each other, to encourage each other, to lift each other. No one is better than anyone else, we’re all Subxero.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I’ve always been drawn to the energy that heavy metal and all of its sub-genres creates. The feeling of unity, family, just made me feel good.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Jason and I, this is Eric-bassist by the way, have been performing together for a long time. Jason knew Josh-drums from a previous band, Josh and Issam-guitar know each other from a band, Jason met Daniel-guitar through mutual friends. 

4. Each band member favourite band?

Jason- Demon Hunter

Daniel- Pantera

Issam- Killswitch Engage

Josh- Devil You Know/Light The Torch

Eric- Tool

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Life is our inspiration. There’s plenty of subject matter in the world today. When it comes to the music aspect, normally it will start with a simple guitar riff idea that develops into a full song over time, with contributions from each musician. Lyrics are then written for the song, and then maybe some tweaking and rearranging here and there, until we are satisfied.

6. Where was your last gig?

We played a small outdoor festival in Florida. It was a good time even though it was cold. Yes it gets cold in Florida.

7. Where would you like to perform?

Everywhere. As many places as possible. It’s difficult to narrow it down to one place.

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

Sevendust, AX7, Breaking Benjamin, Tool just to name a few.

9. Whom not?

No one really comes to mind. You’re going to run into “rock stars” when you play so you have to ignore it. We’re all pretty down to earth and completely approachable. We’re all Subxero.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Daniel does and he says he has to suck it up and enjoy playing. Jason does as well. I don’t have an issue with it. Josh and Issam don’t either. We have a pre-show Jager bomb or three to ease any nervous tensions the fellas might have. As for any advice, just focus on the moment. Make sure everyone is on their “A” game and kick ass. Don’t over think the situation.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

We each have so many that it’s really hard to list them all. Sevendust, Breaking Benjamin, Tool, Pantera, Iron Maiden, AX7 just to name a few. The list is much more diverse than that as well.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I asked the guys this question and let’s just say that there hasn’t been a shortage of odd sexual offerings.

13. What do you think of your fans?

I think our fans are awesome. We can’t thank you enough for enjoying what we do.

14. What do you think of our site?

It kicks ass!! I love finding new music and you definitely have a plethora of bands to check out.
