Behind The Artworks: Alizarin - The Last Semblance (2020)

The artwork for ‘The Last Semblance’ was hand-drawn by our own Josh Kay. It was conceived in two stages. The original piece of art ended up becoming secondary (for the back cover and singles), and an entirely new piece was completed based on a small portion of the first one. The final cover art displays an emerald sphere, decayed and decrepit, with living tissue within it. It is somewhat tied to the lyrical theme of the song “Heirloom” on the new album; the timeline of humanity, intellectual evolution, and prolific ignorance. This same sphere can be found at the center of the back cover/single artwork, which is heavily influenced by the Polish artist Zdzisław Beksiński. Both pieces were done entirely with colored pencil.
