Interviews: Disconnected

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metal band AETERNITAS, from France. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Adrian (lead guitarist): I was thinking about that back in early 2012 when I had the idea to create the band. I remember looking for a band name for a while when I found it by reading some lyrics. I saw the word « Disconnected » and it resonated very strongly with me because it really defines who I am and how I see things generally in life. I mean, we’ve never been more able to get connected the ones to each other with our smartphones, socials and shit but at the same time, we are so disconnected from real life. It’s a blessing and a curse at the same time. To get down to business, I was speaking to myself «But why haven’t you thought about this name before ? » And it appears a lot of bands already called themselves Disconnected but hopefully, nobody made our kind of music !!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Adrian: Cuz I really love to hear a huge wall of sound on my music, even if I’m not a true metalhead, I consider me as a rocker with tastes for heaviness

Ivan: I’ve never thought in terms of wanting to play this genre or this other genre. My only drive is to create music that I like. I love the power, the intensity and the energy of metal music, I’ve always loved that. It comes way back when I was a teenager. Music to me is all about feeling something special, something different. Metal music to me is the only one that gives me that kind of chills.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Adrian: I and Romain were at the same musical school but otherwise we’ve never met before the band was formed and that was sick cuz a natural feeling appeared the first time we played, It was like we had always been playing together! I remember the first gigs we did on the Tremonti tour and how surprised those guys were to know the first gig on that tour was actually our third gig with that lineup! We are made to play together, that’s a fact !!

4. Each band member favourite band?

Adrian: It’s a tricky one, depends on the mood of the day but I’d say, Van Halen!!

Ivan: tough question…. I’ll say Pantera.

Flo: Textures

Jelly: Iron Maiden

Romain: Metallica

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Adrian: Mostly my feelings of the moment, I mean I write a song when I have something to tell if I don’t, I simply don’t write music. Hopefully, I have a lot to express !!

Ivan: I’m inspired by everything that surrounds me. It can be a situation, a person, a sound, a feeling. I’m also always very inspired by the riffs Adrian sends me when we start the process of creating new material. Since we started working together for this band, it clicked between us. We are artistically very well connected.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was in France in Saint-Malo, in support of one of the biggest french metal bands named « Mass Hysteria », it was the second time we opened for them, they are very nice and they really like our music as well.

7. Where would you like to act?

Adrian: Hum, I don’t have any preferences but I can’t wait to perform our first gig in the US!! Hope it’s gonna happen as soon as possible !! Fingers crossed!

Ivan: Everywhere ahahahahah! We’ve already done a good tour of Europe, and we're about to do a pretty good festival season, but obviously, with the Corona situation, all our summer is cancelled. Of Course touring in the US one day would be fantastic. I’d also really like touring in Australia and Japan. 8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Adrian: I would love someone unexpected in our kind of music like Lady Gaga or Eminem!! Yes I really love to dream, but you know what, dreams are made to come true ahah

Ivan: There would be several I have to say, but if I had to choose a few I’d say Mark Tremont, Corey Taylor, Ivan Moody, James Hetfield, Mike Patton, M.Shadows.

9. Whom not?

Ivan: Kanye West. I’d be too scared of performing with the « biggest rock star of all times » ahahahah

Adrian: Hum, Booba( the french Kanye West hahaha)

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Adrian: In my case I’ve learnt to manage that when I was at my musical school, I don’t know if you guys have already watched the movie « Whiplash » but I really had a teacher like that, 7 hours per week.

After that kind of experience, I can tell you, nothing can frighten you off, especially on stage.

Ivan: I used to when I was a youngster, but that doesn’t really count, that happens when you don’t really know what you’re doing at the beginning. The last time I was well stressed about hitting the stage was in Jan 2019, when we opened for Judas Priest in a 7 000 seats venue in France… literally, 30 mins before going on stage Rob Halford came to our dressing room to say hello and ask about us, how we were feeling and stuff, what a gentleman. Man, that was really impressive and inspiring at the same time. So when we had to walk towards the stage I really process what was about to happen for us… We were opening for the fucking Metal Gods you know…. All of a sudden I felt a lot of pressure. So what I do in these kinds of situation, I say to myself

A- you’re a singer, so you’re not supposed to be built for thinking (hahaha only joking…). No, I said to myself, you’ve been waiting for this moment to happen for a long fucking time, so stop being a fool and go for it, you know that when you hit that stage it’s home. It’s where you belong, it’s what you were made for. In the end, it worked out really well for us on that evening even if we were very different from Priest

I think that adversity is always giving you some answers. When you can go through certain things to me it says that you were destined for this. Like a true champion that can overcome pain in the very last moments of competition.

Flo: Yes it happens. My advice is to warm up well and to stay focus on giving the best you can on stage. try to always stay positive.

Jelly: never really been.

Romain: Oh yeah it happens! So I try to focus on all the shit my singer and drummer are talking , and they do talk a lot of shit ahahahahaha!!!!! More seriously I try to think about the thrill of the last gig and tell to myself that it’s gonna be the same right now, so there’s no point in being stressed .

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Adrian: Not a band in particular but Mark Tremonti in all his projects since Creed! I’ve really dug all his stuff ever since. He’s really inspiring me, and now I have the chance to know him a bit and to exchange from time to time with him! It’s a blessing!

Ivan: Pantera, Faith No more, Metallica, Stone Sour.

Flo: Tigran Hamasyan, Rage Against The Machine, Marty Friedman, Freak Kitchen, Dream Theater

Jelly: Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Porcupine tree

Romain: Metallica, Dream Theater, Lamb of God, Architects, Parkway Drive, Bring me the Horizon.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Not weird at first but once a fan who looked like a huge bearded viking asked me for a hug, unless the guy literally lifted me up and told me « you see now what a real hug is.. » ahah

Ivan: ahaha, we haven’t had the success yet that goes to silly askings. Our fans are very nice and respectful so far.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are fantastic. We’re an up and coming band, so we don’t have the touring regularity that established bands have. Some of our fans didn’t see us live for a year and a half, and still, they support us on a daily basis. Some others already travelled for days and days to see us on stage for less than one hour, that’s crazy !!

To this day we are still amazed by their dedication to our band. It makes us think that we must do something good, and that keeps us motivated at all times!

14. What do you think of our site?

Adrian: It’s really great, congrats guys !!

Ivan: Very well done and professional, I like the fact that you are open to cover a lot of different genres. It proves you’re open-minded. I think it’s great quality.

15. Something add?

Ivan: I just wanna say that this new song « Unstoppable » it’s us. We started from scratch and we 've already done a lot for an independent band. We live by two rules « hard work pays off » and « dreams can come true ». Check us out, you won’t be disappointed.

Adrian: Huge thanks for your interest in the band, it’s actually the first interview we do for the promotion of our new single and we are really glad it is with you guys!! Take care and stay safe!!! #WEAREDISCONNECTED
