Interviews: Hessler

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Metal band Hessler, from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Erik: No comment.

Igz: It did come out just like that, but Black Sabbath and Wilson Phillips were taken.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Erik: Marshall amps have a lot of gain for a reason. It’s more fun to play aggressively.

Igz: Metal allows you to go from blazing fast to sloth slow in the span of three minutes. There are no rules, and palm muted chugging is the equivalent to breathing.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Erik: Apparently an early incarnation of Hessler rehearsed across the street from my high school girlfriend’s house.

Igz: Literally what E said, and a shame we didn't meet then. Would have been a lot cooler if we did.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Erik: I have too many favorites. Slayer, Motley Crue, Slipknot, Dimmu Borgir.

Igz: Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, W.A.S.P., Accept, Ramms+ein & ICP

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Erik: I’ve got riffs for days, but I overthink a lot and don’t get anything done, haha!

Igz: My favorite thing is when I'm doing an everyday task like washing my hands or getting into a car and a melody or lyric just comes into my head, which can quickly lead to a new song. Also gain inspiration from comics, films, and looking out of windows.

6. Where was your last gig?

Igz: The last one was on Halloween as The Misfits. It was a good and motivational time working out to get in Danzig shape. Lifting weights while sinning "Broken bodies in a death rock dance hall, please be my partner" made me feel like Duke Nukem.

7. Where would you like to perform?

Erik: I miss Texas and California. I’d love to play in Europe, specifically Scandinavia.

Igz: Germany, Japan, Mexico.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Erik: Billie Eilish.

Igz: uh huh uh, huh huh, yeah.... me too.

9. Whom not?

Erik: Billie Eilish.

Igz: I still would, cause there would be plenty of new young minds to corrupt and brings over to the dark side. Come get some.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Erik: Once. For all of 10 seconds. Then I remembered I was wielding a sonic weapon capable of producing 100 watts of destruction. I’m louder!

Igz: The very first show I ever played, during the first ten seconds. Then like a total n00b I jumped off the stage to rock out on floor level and climbed back up. Should have saved that for later in the show. I think that jump off the stage made me realize it's ok - and to be confident in the fact that I've been fortunate enough to make progress to go from the floor to the stage. Along with that, play your ass off to thank people for their time in coming out to see you perform.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

See #4 above - that's a good starting point.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Erik: My virginity. My babies. An honest answer. Haha nobody wants anything I’ve got!

Igz: Only thing that comes to mind is in Galveston, Texas when we went from free gourmet cajun style meals at a restaurant, to an underground strip club, to people asking us to stay over at their house. There was a REALLY creepy, dare I say dangerous, vibe from one dude, so we packed up the cats and rode out in the middle of the night.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Thank you to everyone for saluting our flag. It's still flying at full mast.
