Interviews: Symbiotic Growth

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Black Metal/Death Metal band Symbiotic Growth from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or did it just come out like that?

Originally Devin and Arron were in a band name SymbiotiK, named after the Marvel Symbiotes’ like Venom. Once Aaron and Dan started writing together, they were discussing names and came up with Symbiotic Growth.

2. Why did you decide to play this genre of music?

To be honest, we had no plans to play this exact genre. It’s kind of a culmination of our favorite types of music; Black Metal, Death Metal, and Progressive. There was no point in time where we tried to aim for a certain style for this album, we just kind of let everything flow in the writing process.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yeah, we did. Aaron and Devin have been friends since high school music class, and Devin knew Dan from the local metal scene near the end of high school. Devin then joined a couple bands with Dan and introduced Aaron a few years later, to which they were in a band together before Symbiotic. After that band disbanded, Aaron and Dan formed Symbiotic Growth and Devin joined a year later.

4. What is each band members favorite band?

Aaron – The “Eric Andre Show” house band. Dan – That’s a tough one, too many to list. Devin – Der Weg einer Freiheit, Ne Obliviscaris, Cytotoxin, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Alterbeast, and Abigail Williams.

5. Who or what inspired you to write your music?

The frightening thought of the impending singularity in which we shall no longer be considered human, but more machine than man.

6. Where was your last gig?

The Asylum, in Sudbury, Ontario. A local metal bar operated by a friend of ours, Mark Howitt.

7. Where would you like to play a gig?

Europe, Japan, Australia, and the Joe Rogan Podcast.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Aaron: That Montley Crew singer guy, Vince Vaughan?

Dan: Isahn, not to be confused with Vince Vaughan of Montley Crew fame.

Devin: Christian Muenzner or George Kollias.

9. Whom not?

Owen Neilson.

10. Has any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to overcome it?

Dan: I’m not sure if I have, but I blast two weeds behind the drum set. My advice? Blast three weeds.

Aaron: No comment.

Devin: Yes but actually no. Alchohol, specifically rum.

11. What bands have Inspired you the most?

Der Weg einer Freiheit, Ne Obliviscaris, Gojira, Anaal Nathrakh, and Black Crown Initiate.

12. What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Honestly, this album took about 5 years to be released, so the strangest thing would be questions like “When is the album coming out?”, to which we would never have an answer for.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Were grateful for the all the positive feedback we’ve gotten on our album, so a big shout out to all our fans, the Symbiotes!

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s a great place to find new music, everyone should check it out!

15. Anything to add?

Thanks for taking the time to reach out to us! Were already hard at work with new music, so stay tuned! Cheers!
