Interviews: ZEBADIAH CROWE

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Black Metal/Grindcore/Industrial Metal band, ZEBADIAH CROWE, from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

I like to read... alot! and I came upon the name of this guy: “Zebadiah Crowe” he was a thief, murderer, highwayman and generally all round pretty bad guy in the late 16 hundreds. They accused him of all the usual stuff like being a devil etc and did what they did back then and hung him. So I looked into what the names mean. zebadiah means gift from god (or a god or gods) crowe is often used in middle English to describe somthing dark or black so zebadiah crowe would be “a dark gift from the gods” the rest writes itself...

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I’ve played in many bands over the years, and I’ve found this is one of the few styles I can play and create to my strengths in (as small as they are). BM lends itself to what I laughingly have convinced myself I’m half decent at creating basically. He he

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Actually yes we did. I groomed Forr (musically speaking) for the role. he’s gonna hate that. Let’s leave that out. actually leave it in. F^*k him! He he he! He’s gonna be angry with me about something might as well be this he he

4. Each band member favourite band?

Oooh now... that’s a hard one as I also listen to a lot of non metal stuff like Tom waits and nick cave but for me ministry. For Forrr: probably black flag I think. He owns a lot of there t shirts.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Ah now, Tom waits. His songs tell these ugly dark stories that are also kind of beautiful. But from an actual music perspective, let me pull up my player list as that’s a pretty good perspective, ok... voivod, gost, morgoth, dark fortress, ministry, agoraphobic nosebleed, Judas Priest, nailbomb, Perturbator.. that’s just the first few.

6. Where was your last gig?

The end of the Marduk and Annal Nathrakh tour I believe. I think everyone just looked at each other, snarled and walked of in different directions.

7. Where would you like to act?

To act? Ive been in pinewood briefly and had a look at the old star wars sets. that would be a hell of a thing to be involved with. Lloyd Kaufman films have always been a guilty pleasure of mine. I was very very lucky and very humbled to be taken to the storage spot of jim henson, where I got to meet the giant griffin puppet from the storyteller. there’s a picture somewhere of me hugging it. so I’d have loved to have interacted with that masterpiece. nick cave has made some fantastic art on film but I think a Clive Barker film would be the one. Nicholas Winding Refn is another but that would be LA I’m not sure I’d fit in there.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Unfortunately, he is no longer with us, but Rutger Hauer. I think that would have been a bucket list moment. other than that Mads Mikkelsen or very probably Paul giamatti, who’s a fantastic character actor. Patrick Stewart too but I fear he would hate me on principle he he. French Stewart would be wonderful. If you’ve seen his very small part in “the flock” you’d know how good he is. I’ll tell you is very underrated as an actor is Kevin James. I’m very pleased he’s getting outside of the niche they put him in playing straighter roles.

9. Whom not?

David Duchovny! I’m sure he’s a very nice man... but no thank you!

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Nothing beyond the lights or the edge of the stage is real so you don’t have to worry about it. Only what’s held in that moment in that universe inside the lights. remember that and try to breath steadily... and make sure you hit your mark.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Ministry, I had the very good luck to see them on the psalm 69 tour. You don’t forget that.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I had a guy ask me to spit in his cd for him for his girlfriend??. I politely declined as that was a bit odd I just gave him a sticker instead and said “just tell her I said hi”

13. What do you think of your fans?

Y’know... these people are great, considering we were never up there with the big guys I still hear from them every now and again via a message or email. or from people who have just discovered us. There intrigued and want to talk and I’m happy to speak to them. considering our inactivity it’s quite humbling to know these people still want to speak to you.

14. What do you think of our site?

Excellent, there’s some bands on there I’m gonna check out. I see your doing a compilation to help out with the Australian fires which I thought was pretty cool.
15. Something add?

Never ask an overbearing alpha Male with delusions of grandeur if he can “add something” he he I’ll be here all night. No.. I’ll just say, thank you for your time and bow out gracefully.
