Interviews: Saccage
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Blackened Death Metal band, Saccage, from the Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Well, the idea at the beginning was ‘’SACCAGE NOCTURNE’’ or in English:
‘NOCTURNAL PILLAGE’’. The name came from an evening where a bunch of friends
broke everything in a bar after hearing a metal song. Table went upside down, broken
bottles, everybody screaming and beating the shit out of the place... The poor bar was
literally destroyed for no real reason. This night, the name SACCAGE NOCTURNE just
came naturally for a Death/Thrash Project, reflecting the madness behind it. But we
shortened it to SACCAGE, it sounds better and it was easier to learn for anybody.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Back in the days, we were deep into Thrash, Crust band and old school Death Metal
while having deep roots within the Black Metal scene (there was a lot of those bands in
2000s in Québec City). We wanted to create something a lot more brutal than what
people were creating back then in our area (2007 era). Mixing Crust/Grind with
Blackened Death was not really common and we just felt it naturally.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Well, yeah. All the line-up back in the days was with musicians from the Rive-Sud of the
capital (name St-Jean-Chrysostome. It was a small city around Québec City. Metalhead
and punk all know each other over there.
4. Each band member favorite band?
We all have a lot of bands that we like but we all share the old school spirit of extreme
metal, here some example : Nunslaughter, Entombed, Darkthrone, Motorhead, Inepsy,
Morbid Angel, Deicide (old), Wolfbrigade, Napalm Death, Terrorizer, Doom, Horna,
Marduk (old), Cursed, Dismember and all those cult Death/Thrash/Black Metal and
Grindcore from th 90’s.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
The passion that inspires us is to create deep and brutal art reflecting our vision of life
and death, with music that brings a raw energy, a total power of chaos and sound with our
instruments and making the whole thing go nuts during our lives ritual. LOUDER THAN
EVERYTHING ELSE.
6. Where was your last gig?
Last winter for the KHAOS MORTEM release show with SOILED BY BLOOD and
OBSOLETE MANKIND in Québec City. Killer gig, a lot of people, circle pit, people
screaming lyrics. Total old school. Cant wait doing show again, one of the primary goals
of this band.
7. Where would you like to act?
In fucking Europe. COVID fuck everything up for our 2020 euro tour. We will come
back in 2021. See you there.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Any bands that rip!
9. Whom not?
Any band that does not rip!
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat
that?
Not really but there is only one tip that work! PLAY FUCKING ALL THE TIME THAT
YOU CAN. So much band are not playing often… If you want to become a beast, play
all the time in any context. Saccage is a band that played a lot of shows and its why we
can play in fucking big ass venue as well as squat of the basement and we are always in
control.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
I will not name one band but more custom genre since we are listening to too many bands
:Blackened Crust, old school Death Metal, Death/Thrash, Up-Tempo Grindcore, old
school Black Metal
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Selling beer to a fan that microbrewery ‘Le Corsaire’ did for us (a black IPA called
‘SACCAGE’) at a show. What he asks for was not weird but it’s how I sell it to him since
we cannot bring our own beer into the bar. So, we went outside into the parking lot and I
sell him a 6-pack of Saccage like I was selling some Cocaine, almost looking for a cop
around us.
13. What do you think of your fans?
They are a huge part of us. Its them who bring us to play, travel and playing our music in
a live context. Power to them.
14. What do you think of our site?
Honestly, I didn’t know you before that interview and I must say that your website is
really well-done and professional. So much better and pro than a lot of simple Blogspot
with no real content, and you cover all kinds of music. Remind me of Invisible Orange
and Cvltnation. Cheers to you, continue the good job.
15. Something add?
Look out our bandcamp or any streaming platform, our discography is everywhere.
Almost 4 full length behind our back (including Vorace). SPIN THAT SHIT FUCKING
LOUD!!! HAIL SATAN.
