Interviews: Silent Saga
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Metal band, Silent Saga, from Germany. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
When rebranding - the name "Amazon" was kinda "taken" in Europe :P - we came up with several
different and very good options, but we thought that Silent Saga relates so well to one's life,
especially in current times where social media strangles real life in ways that humankind never
experienced before, and everyone has to deal with their own loneliness when they look away from
their screens. We think this applies to musicians even further, as no one else knows how much
blood and sweat there is behind an artist's work. It's beautiful and amazing when done, but every
artist, when not performing, lives their very own Silent Saga to create the work before putting it out
there to the world.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We like the contrast of the heavy harmonies with the female voice. We have been heavily
influenced by several female fronted bands, so I think it's kind of natural to play this kind of
music and also that our songs sound like they do.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
We have had a few different lineups, but we met Daniel and Carsten in 2017, which is very
recently compared with the band's history, which goes back to 2002.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Is it even possible to have ONE favorite band? There's so many good bands out there! I
currently listen to Amaranthe and Beast in Black a lot, but I also love Maiden for their
infallible songwriting formula and their relevance to metal in general.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
We write about how questioning your own views of the world can allow you to grow as an
individual, how everyone can influence their own lives and change the path they're heading. We do
not try to point people to a specific line of thought or to a certain ideology. We try to show people
that there's a different way to look at themselves, and to feed the desire to reach what they aim for
through our music and texts. It's about having that "aha" moment. We are all about the inner
revolution.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last Gig was at the Logo Hamburg, before this whole pandemic crap started.
7. Where would you like to perform?
We'd love to play at the Grünspan or the Markthalle! :) And Wacken of course!
8. Whom would you like to perform with?
The list is very long! We have played with Nightwish, Epica, Shaaman, Dr. Sin... we'd love
to play with ArchEnemy and Delain!
9. Whom not?
Any band that doesn't respect the other band's soundcheck or concert time! Not cool,
dude! Not cool!
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat
that?
I used to get nervous when I was younger. Then you figure out that the audience is built of people
just like yourself, and that what really matters is to have a good time. If you get nervous, you waste
a chance of having a good time. So now I just really enjoy getting on stage and making music! For
the beginners: the audience is made of people just like you. Get up there and rock it!
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
I'm a big fan of the 80s. I spent a lot of time listening to Glam Metal when I was in my
teens, and then I got into heavier bands like Accept, Maiden, Metal Church... I think these
bands were the ones that really shaped my taste in music.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
To make a selfie... with my guitar. :P
13. What do you think of your fans?
They are the best! Crazy people who leave their homes, sometimes travel hours to watch
us play. Scream their lungs out singing our songs. And they also are very kind, decent
people, who really care not only about the band but also about every one of us. We really
enjoy spending time with them, be it in person after the show or simply replying to their
emails and messages.
14. What do you think of our site?
It's a great place to discover bands and have access to their material! I like the subgenres
sidebar, it makes exploring the bands you might like a lot easier. When will Silent Saga
feature in that playlist top right??? :)
