Interviews: Diabhal

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal band, Diabhal, from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The band name is Devil in Irish

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Death metal has always been a huge part of our lives and once we wrote the first song, everything else came naturally

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Three of our band members used to play in a thrash band together and three members also played together in a hardcore band briefly

4. Each band member favorite band?

Tameems favorite bands are Death and Incantation, Miguel’s favorite bands are The Cro-Mags and Slayer, Jon’s favorite band is Body Count and Ricky’s favorite band is Disrupt

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I (Tameem) actually never have one formula for songwriting, some songs start with a sick drum beat and branch out from there, other songs start as a single riff. Inspiration for lyrics normally happens within a week or writing and normally consist of horror themes from movies, dreams or just pure aggression

6. Where was your last gig?

Being a fairly new band, we have never played a show due to Covid

7. Where would you like to act?

We’d love to play venues in our area like Saint Vitus

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Bands like Incantation, Cannibal Corpse, Tomb Mold, and basically any bands featured on HPGD, caligari, 20 buck spin, transcending obscurity, dark descent and maggot stomp

9. Whom not?

Although we sometimes have a hardcore edge. Our sound does not fit alongside metalcore or deathcore music

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I (Tameem) definitely experience stage fright but to a lesser degree nowadays, I’d say to drink a lot of water, imagine the crowd isn’t even there, and after the first note or growl, all the pre-show nerves will vanish

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

When writing this music, I was listening to a laundry list of amazing bands. Everything between Morta Skuld, Thorns and Napalm Death. We are heavily inspired by the Swedish HM-2 tone. The vocals are a blend of Incantation style swamp monster vocals and 2nd wave Black Metal vocals

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

When Miguel, Jon and I were in a hardcore band together, we were asked to take a picture with a group of locals that wandered into the venue. Still one of the weirdest moments of being in a band

13. What do you think of your fans?

Our fans are currently mostly our friends as we are a new band

14. What do you think of our site?

Breathing the Core is a great website, we’re honored to be featured on it. I scrolled down the whole thing and the variety is incredible
