Interviews: Drop Top Alibi

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the  Rock band, Drop Top Alibi, from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Honestly, the name was kind of a no-brainer there isn't really a specific meaning behind it, although you could probably find a few.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Rock Music at its core is raw and unbridled. I think the lack of rules and guidelines for what defines "rock" appeals to us the most.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Brandon and I met in 2011 and have been friends and bandmates ever since. We played in all sorts of different bands the earliest being a thrash metal band called Rebellion. Through the music scene we eventually met Jeff Cox and Luc Ricci around 2016 and the rest is history.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Dylan Wykes: AC/DC

Luc Ricci: Red Hot Chili Peppers

Jeff Cox: Queens Of The Stone Age

Brandon Gregory: Soundgarden

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We draw inspiration for everything when it comes to songwriting. It could be a great movie, a bad break up, a cool riff or new instrument. Or..... you could take copious amounts of drugs and hit record.

6. Where was your last gig?

We opened for Theory Of A Deadman just before the quarantine started.

7. Where would you like to perform?

Anywhere overseas is at the top of our list. Europe, Asia, Australia. But if I had to pick one place Venue specific, I'd say Glastonbury in the UK.

8. Whom would you like to tour with?

We have some local friends we would love to get out with as soon as Covid allows. But as far as big bands go, definitely the Foo Fighters.

9. Whom not?

Who wouldn't we tour with? I don't know Hedley?

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

I have been performing in front of an audience since I was maybe 14 and strangely I was never nervous in front of people until I was into my late-teens early 20's. I think it's important to be confident in yourself and in your abilities which takes practice both mentally and physically. But most importantly fuck other peoples opinions if it makes you happy go do it.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

This definitely is a long answer for us. The short version would be that we get inspired by all forms of music from Hip Hop to Folk and Rock n Roll. My earliest memory of music is being a kid (3-4y/o) in my dads truck blasting Hypnotize me by Biggie. the bands sound derives heavily from the original big rock bands like The Stones, AC/DC, The Beatles & Zeppelin. But we are 90's kids so the soundtrack of our pre-teen years was heavily rooted in the grunge movement and the rock bands coming out of LA in the 90's-00's. Think Soundgarden, Fishbone, Red Hot Chili's, Rage against the Machine & Queens of the Stone age. We also have a healthy appetite for Heavy Metal bands like Motohead, Iron Maiden, Sepultura, Megadeth & Lamb Of God.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Crack

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love our fans, we've been lucky to get to know a few of them really well over the course of our southern Ontario tour in 2019. The small town fans are always kick ass!

14. What do you think of our site?

The site looks crisp, especially the new bands page.

15. Future plans?

We are currently hard at work writing new music for you guys. Planning something awesome for 2021.

16. Something to add?

Our newest single Eyes For You is out now
