Interviews: Magnolia Bayou

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the  Rock band, Magnolia Bayou, from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The band name came about because we wanted something that encompassed where we came from and the vibe we were trying to convey. We all got in a group chat and started sending words and phrases that related to where we grew up. Magnolia and Bayou ended up right next to each other, it was fate. Magnolia Bayou

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We started out as a blues band and played loads of old covers. After a while, we ended up seeking out more and more classic rock tunes to cover. Playing covers really made us find our sound, you start to figure out how much works on a microscopic level and you study it to find why the greatest songs are great for a reason. When you start to figure out the tricks of the trade, it becomes easier. We’re all influenced by just about anything that’s got a groove and a feel, so the more you know about all that, the better.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Josh, Dylan, and Drew knew each other from growing up in the same neighborhood and went to the same school. Cedric came into the picture about 2 years ago after the band had been established for a couple of years and it’s been awesome having him on board! He’s brought so much life into this music.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Collectively we all love bands like AC/DC, Alice In Chains, and delta blues guys like Howlin Wolf. It’s a big melting pot for sure

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Drew is the main songwriter so I know he likes to keep an open ear and an open mind to anything. I know that we’ve been riding in the van on the way to a show and we’ll see or hear something random that sparks a cool idea, and we’ll just put it in Notes in our phones. Sometimes a bird may sing a melody that hits us the right way and we’ll try to sing it into our phones in Voice Memos until we’re able to get our instruments out. Music is such a magical thing.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last two gigs sold out at Sidetracks Music Hall in June for socially distanced acoustic nights. It was awesome to strip everything down and vibe with acoustic instruments.

7. Where would you like to act?

Red Rocks is a dream venue for us. Madison Square Garden would be a cool one too!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Tedeschi Trucks Band would be a monster collaboration. That band is like church. Drew and I have seen them twice

9. Whom not?

I don’t think we would be a good fit for like Cardi B or most pop stars like that on the radio these days. Hahaha.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I think initially, yes. But you just have to find out more about yourself and what mellows you out. It’s an anxiety thing I think, so you figure out what calms you down so you’re able to focus on your show as opposed to your nerves.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

The Allman Brothers Band, AC/DC, Alice In Chains, Howlin Wolf, we definitely gravitate towards 60’s & 70’s bands for sure

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I can’t really think of anything. Fortunately our fans aren’t that weird, yet.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They’re like our family. We think of our fans as our “Road Family” We have our adopted aunts and uncles of the road and we have some of our best friends in states that we go to like once a year. It’s a wonderful thing.

14. What do you think of our site?

Really cool website! Glad you guys are helping spread the word about new, great music! Thanks for having us!

15. Something add?
