Interviews: PERSEIDE

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Rock/Metal band, PERSEIDE, from France. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Julien (vocals / rhythm guitar): Perséide is the French name for the shooting stars that appear in France mid-august. They result from the Earth crossing the tail of the constellation of Perseus. In French, these shooting stars are called “les larmes du martyre de Saint-Laurent” (“tears of Saint-Laurent’s martyr”). As we known each other in a town called Saint-Laurent, we decided to call the band after this awesome story.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

When we were teenagers, we were passionate about metal music. The feeling it gave us made us want to get on stage like our idols. Naturally, we started imitating our favourite bands, and then we created our own band. The genre came naturally as we started writing music as we always loved it!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We met each other a long time before the band’s formation: we were childhood friends! The story of the band started when we were in high school. It was almost 20 years ago and the passion is still the same. It has a strong meaning for us because it remains us that we are still together after all this time: four little boys that wanted to rock in their hometown.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Julien (vocals / rhythm guitar): Avenged Sevenfold

Adrien (lead guitar): In Flames

Anthony (drums): The Used

Guillaume (bass): Enter Shikari

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Julien: Personally, I’m a medical doctor in anaesthesia and critical care. The things I’ve seen in the hospital make me remember that when you’re in good health, you have to love your life and seize the day. That’s a concept that we like to inject into our lyrics and chords: enjoying the little things that are enjoyable, listening to music, losing yourself in a rock show and live it up!

6. Where was your last gig?

Before the lockdown mid-January 2020! Unfortunately and like every other artist, we haven’t played live since the coronavirus crisis, but we did a lot of funny stuff separately during the quarantine in France, and we are really excited to hit the stage again... Of course we hope that everybody will stay safe.

7. Where would you like to perform?

We really would like to play at the Hellfest. It has become legendary and it would be an honour for the four French metal heads that we are to play at home for this awesome festival!

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

Without hesitation, we would like to share the stage with the bands that had influenced us the most: Enter Shikari, The Used, In Flames...

9. Whom not?

Every member of the band has its own taste in music and we have a lot of influences. We could listen to every style and we already shared the stage with pop bands or extreme metal bands... So, I can’t think of an artist whom we wouldn’t like to perform with!

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

We had a strange fright... I remember of a gig where we drank too much before getting on stage. We were so f*cked up that we couldn’t play the songs properly... Anthony felt off his chair behind the drums!!! Awful... So my tip for beginners: don’t drink too much and play live!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

We have a lot of inspirations: personally, I came into metal music with classic bands like Metallica or Slayer. Adrien (lead guitar) was educated with progressive metal and Guillaume (bass) is a big nu metal fan! As for Anthony (drums), he’s into electro music and that’s why he loves to kick his bass drum so much!!! But when it comes to modern music, the bands that have inspired us the most are Avenged Sevenfold, In Flames, The Used and Enter Shikari!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Nothing weird... Just to sleep with the four of us at once (we refused, obviously).

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are all a bunch of bastard! I’m obviously joking... They are all for us, our friends, our family. The returns after the release of our first album are really heart-warming... It motivates us to carry on!!!

14. What do you think of our site?

We really love the koala.

15. Something to add?

Sex, drugs and rock’n’roll!!!
