Interviews: Snake Bite Whisky

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the  Sleaze Metal/Sleaze Rock band, Snake Bite Whisky, from Australia. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

In Thailand they have a whisky that has a dead snake in the bottle that ferments that’s called Snake Whisky. It has that kinda danger factor when you drink it because of the venom and dead fucking snake so that’s where the name kinda originated. When we were on tour in Mexico in Tijuana we had a tequila version with dead cobras in it, that was pretty good.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Jay: Because we fucking love old school sleaze. Not the Swedish style which is more like glam but the real dirty, gritty sleaze metal that came out in the late eighties back before everyone got so fucking sensitive but at the same time even though we knew we were gonna be unashamedly sleaze metal we wanted to put a modern spin on it so there is a lot Metal, punk and even outlaw country elements to us. And we don’t give a fuck about trends, we just do what we like.

Laggy: I was playing extreme metal for over a decade, and essentially I wanted to try something different. I was a pretty miserable dude for a long time and that was reflected in the music I was playing! I'm a much happier guy these days and this music is just flat out fun to play!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Stacii and Laggy have known each other for years but Laggy only joined the band recently. Nick and Dave from the original lineup were high school friends and they knew Stacii for a long time before we formed. Jay had moved over from England and he approached Stacii about getting a band together. And Dan joined for our UK tour last year when the drummer and guitarist just quit on us, Dan loved it so decided to join full time.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Jay: Guns N’ Roses, Motorhead.

Staccii: L.A Guns

Laggy: Judas Priest, Van Halen, The Darkness, Megadeth!

Dan: Rage Against The Machine.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Jay: Fucking life man! Every song that we’ve wrote is about something we’ve experienced. We’re a fucked up bunch of guys who have lived through some shit so we don’t lack for subject matter! Haha!

Laggy: Mr. Edward Van Halen! Though mostly what inspires me is colour if that makes sense - I like my music to sound like colours.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last show before lockdown was in Toowoomba in Queensland, Australia. It was a pretty wild show with a huge chunk of the crowd on stage for our last song B.A.M! Blow up dolls bounced around the crowd, lots of booze and chicks twerking on stage so a fairly standard show for us. Haha!

7. Where would you like to act?

Jay: Everywhere! Before the Covid-19 shit we had two major international tours being booked. Obviously, this year is fucked so now that’s all shifted to next year to support the release of our second album. Touring is where is at, we’ve already done a bunch of international tours it’s a whole lot of fun and you get to meet some cool fucking people.

Laggy: Wacken Open Air is my absolute dream show. One day! 8. Whom would you like to feature with? It would be cool to get on one of the big tours like Guns N’ Roses or Rob Zombie something like that. We definitely love playing for different types of crowds. We’ve played for Metal and punk crowds and always go down a storm, I guess because we are heavier than a lot of the bands from the sleaze scene. Be cool to get a package tour together with someone like Kickin’ Valentina and The Cruel Intentions and us, that would one fucking epic tour!

9. Whom not?

Jay: Fucking Steel Panther.

Laggy: Probably Five Finger Death Punch haha!

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Jay: I don’t get nerves anymore before a show but I guess the best thing to do is pour that nervous energy into the show and hit the stage like a bull out of the gates.

Laggy: I don't get stage fright. My advice is to just understand that you have power over that audience for however long your set is - you're in control and just embrace that! Have fun with it - they're just people and they're not going to rip your head off!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Jay: Originally it was Guns N’ Roses and Faster Pussycat the original sleaze bands but more recently Backyard Babies and Beautiful Creatures.

Laggy: See aforementioned bands!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Jay: Fans ask for clothes all the time especially on tour, I’m like, “have you smelt this stuff? It’s got tour stench”, especially Stace’s that stuff fucking reeks! I think someone asked for a guitar once.

Laggy: I don't know if it's the weirdest, but signing boobs is always entertaining!

13. What do you think of your fans?

Jay: We fucking love ‘em. They are the craziest bunch of fuckers. Without them we wouldn’t be able to do what we do.

Laggy: I absolutely love them! For someone to take the time out of their day to listen to us is the ultimate honour. You guys rule!

14. What do you think of our site?

Jay: It’s cool as fuck! It’s guys like you that keep Rock N’ Roll in all its different forms alive.

Laggy: Kickass!

15. Something add?

Jay: Thanks for the support and for anyone reading who hasn’t checked us out then go listen to “This Side Of Hell” and keep yer eyes peeled for album number 2 next year!

Laggy: Rock n' Roll is the greatest gift we have been given - so keep your amps on 10 and live your life as loud as possible!
