Interviews: Ancient Thrones

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Blackened Metal band, Ancient Thrones, from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

It’s a natural evolution of our old name “Abysseral Throne” and it also comes from a lyric in the Wolves in the Throne Room song “Astral Blood”

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

I grew up listening to European thrash metal when I was a kid, which evolved into Death Metal and then Black Metal and so forth. It’s really fun and challenging music with endless possibilities. I’m also drawn to darker elements of the music which is hard to find in other genres.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

No, we met through playing music. Nick and Dylan grew up together in rural Nova Scotia, and Matt and I met in Moncton, New Brunswick playing in other bands.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Sean and Dylan love Between the Buried and Me, Matt loves Rush and Nicks digs Mastodon

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Cinema and Life Experiences. One of my favorite things to do is walk around during a rainstorm and take that atmosphere into writing stories.

6. Where was your last gig?

It was at a really wild bar in Halifax called Menz & Mollyz with some of our best friends. I got the crowd to do the wave, it was awesome.

7. Where would you like to act?

We hope to play all over the world. Europe is definitely a shared dream particularly anywhere in Scandinavia. Iceland would be another incredible experience.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

It would be really cool to tour with a band like Deafheaven, or Wolves in the Throne Room.

9. Whom not?

Probably wouldn’t fit too well playing a Country Music Festival, haha!

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I think everyone of us has at some point in our lives. It’s totally natural to experience stage fright, I think you can use the adrenaline you’re experiencing to your advantage if you’re able to remain calm. Remember to breathe!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Skeletonwitch was a huge band for me growing up and learning my voice. Wolves in the Throne Room for the atmosphere they create, I’ve entered that space many times and come out the other side with something creative and new.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

A fan once asked me to slow-dance with her to “Every Rose Has its Thorn” being sung at karaoke after one of our shows. She was about 20 years older than me, but I did it anyway because she bought me a beer. Things got weird when she started kissing my neck, so I ran out haha.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love them and love to see them enjoying the show. If they come to the merch table we’re always sure to thank them for the support and have a chat with them.

14. What do you think of our site?

Your site rules and what you’re doing for metal and new metal bands is amazing!

15. Something add?

Our new album, “The Veil” is releasing digitally everywhere on Nov 6 th . You can Pre-Order a copy at our Bandcamp now, or pre-save the album to your streaming music app of choice. Thank you for checking us out and giving us this opportunity! We hope to see you all soon. ANCIENT THRONES, COSMIC ANGUISH.
